Sybil McLeese Obituary
September 7, 1941 - January 24, 2024
Sybil Anne Rowell McLeese, 82, passed away on January 24, 2024 in East Flat Rock, NC. She is survived by her three children, Greg, Lori, and Ashley; her sisters Janice (Jimmy), Nancy, Lydia (Ken); four grandchildren, Nathan (Sarah), Erica (JT), Zachary, and Hadley; and two great-grandchildren, JT and Audrey. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Jerry.
Her legacy includes:
- Spearheading the preschool program at Kingswood United Methodist church, and serving as the director for many years.
- Dedicating countless hours to the Shalom Project.
- Serving with her husband Jerry at many Interfaith Winston-Salem events.
- Rebuilding communities throughout the southeast and Caribbean after natural disasters struck.
- Deciding that it was her mission to hug or kiss every person she came in contact with in her later years.
Sybil was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in early 2016. Miraculously, the disease manifested in her through increased love and affection. She was a magnet for little ones, and she doted on any baby she came into contact with. She constantly approached children and told them how beautiful they were. She welcomed all people with hugs and kisses.
The world has lost a spark.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, August 24 at 2 p.m. at Green Street UMC, 638 Green Street, Winston-Salem.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Memory Care, SECU Center for MemoryCare, 100 Far Horizons Lane, Asheville, NC 28803.
