ONALASKA - David J. Zak, age 66, of Onalaska, WI, died February 20, 2024 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, WI after a year-long battle with metastatic salivary gland cancer.
Born November 10, 1957 at Tomah Memorial Hospital, Dave was baptized and confirmed in the Necedah United Methodist Church. David attended Necedah Area Schools and was 1975 Graduate of Necedah High School where he participated in varsity baseball, basketball, and was part of the initial high school football start-up program that had been suspended in Necedah during the 1940's. Dave played both sides of the football, playing quarterback and defense.
After graduating high school, Dave attended classes at UW-LaCrosse. Following his time at college, Dave stayed in the LaCrosse area working at various jobs before landing a position with Northern Engraving where he worked until his cancer diagnosis in March 2023.
David was an avid sports fan of all Wisconsin teams, especially the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, Milwaukee Bucks, and UW-Badger teams and would cheer them on in-person whenever possible. When he wasn't watching his favorite teams, he enjoyed playing golf with friends. David especially enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas to meet up with his two older brothers, Richard and Gary.
Dave is survived by his brothers: Richard (Sheryl) Zak of Hagerman, ID and Gary (Karen) Zak of Fairview Heights, IL; and his sister, June Gill, of Sheboygan, WI; along with many nieces and nephews. David will be missed. He was preceded in death by his father, William Zak, and his mother, Martha Zak.
