George R. Sampson

Wisconsin Rapids - George R. Sampson, age 79, of Wisconsin Rapids, WI died Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at the Waterford Assisted Living Center, Wisconsin Rapids, WI.

Funeral Services are 11:00 AM Friday, April 27, 2018 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Wisconsin Rapids, WI. Fr. Dave Bruener will officiate. The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Lawrence on Friday from 9:30-11:00 AM. Online condolences can be sent to ritchayfuneralhome.com.

George was born April 13, 1939 in Duluth, MN to George and Isabelle (MacDonald) Sampson. He married Sally J. Hornick on June 24, 1965 in Menominee, MI. He graduated from UW Superior with a Master's Degree in high school guidance in 1965. George was the first guidance director at Pittsville High School for 3 years from 1965 to 1968. He then worked for the State of Wisconsin Division of Vocational rehabilitation from 1969 until the time of his retirement in 1994.

In retirement he enjoyed fishing, golf, wood working, gardening, spending time on the Wisconsin River at the Cottage and participating in car shows with his 1974 Karmann Ghia "Honeymoon Car". He especially loved visits from the grandkids. George helped in raising his 11 year old brother after both his parents died.

George is survived by his wife, Sally; five children, Craig Sampson of Indianapolis, IN, Brad (Kelly) Sampson of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Jeff (Vee Shing Wong) Sampson of Whitefish Bay, WI, Torri (Ben) Behn of Mazomanie, WI and Traci (Allan) Dreblow of Appleton, WI; and four grandchildren, Brooks, Deacon, Miriam and Sampson.

George was preceded in death by his parents, infant grandson Thomas Dreblow and two brothers, Greg Sampson and Stephen Sampson.
