James Rasmussen Obituary

James L. Rasmussen

Wisconsin Rapids - James Lyle Rasmussen, age 93, of Wisconsin Rapids passed away Thursday, November 14, 2019 at Atrium Post-Acute Care in Wisconsin Rapids.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. Jonathan Petzold will officiate. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services on Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Jim was born March 12, 1926 in Wisconsin Rapids to Ernest and Christine (Hanke) Rasmussen. He attended Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids, before leaving early to serve in the United States Navy during World War II.

He married Bette Kroll on September 5, 1948 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. They were blessed with 71 years of marriage and four sons: Michael, Douglas, Jeffrey and Dennis.

Jim was a lifelong entrepreneur and formed several different companies over the years including the Rasmussen Standard Filling Station, Merchandise Center of Wisconsin Rapids, and Rasmussen Distributing.

Jim was a kind, hardworking, optimistic, generous man. He had a certain way of trusting people and always seeing the glass as being half full. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, cheering on the Green Bay Packers and spending time with family at Shawano Lake. He and Bette were active members of the Wisconsin Rapids Elks Lodge and did a fair amount of traveling; including trips to Las Vegas and a 25th Anniversary trip to Hawaii. Jim was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Bette; three sons: Michael (Patricia) Rasmussen of Wisconsin Rapids, Jeffrey (Laura) Rasmussen of Plover, and Dennis (Barbara) Rasmussen of Altoona; four granddaughters: Kali, Amy, Alicia and Leticia; one great-grandchild, Dru; a brother, Larry Rasmussen; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Douglas Rasmussen; and two brothers and their spouses: Robert (Janice) Rasmussen and William (Shirley) Rasmussen.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Immanuel Lutheran Church and School or the South Wood County Humane Society.

The family would like to thank the staff of Atrium Post-Acute Care for their wonderful care of Jim.
