Julie Akey Obituary

Akey, Julie M.

Julie M. Akey, age 60, of Wisconsin Rapids, WI died Friday, April 28, 2017 at Atrium Post Acute Care, Wisconsin Rapids, WI.

Funeral Services are 11:00 AM Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Ritchay Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids, WI. Father Valentine Joseph will officiate. The family will greet relatives and friends at Ritchay Funeral Home on Saturday from 9:30-11:00 AM. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.

Julie was born December 2, 1956 in Wisconsin Rapids, WI to Charles and Shirley (Nash) Akey. She worked for the Wood County Planning & Zoning Commission for 41 years retiring in December 2016.

Julie was a very family-oriented person. She was a generous giver to all her loved ones and enjoyed watching other people smile with excitement. She loved researching and making fancy new recipes for holidays, making costumes or decorations for parties, and going to family events. The list was endless of the ways she showed her love for others with her time, talents or gifts. Julie was also an avid traveler. Some of her favorite places to go on vacations included Door County, San Francisco, St. Louis, Tennessee, Disney theme parks, and cruise ships. Julie was very fond of animals and especially loved to spoil any of the family pets. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.

Julie is survived by her mother, Shirley Akey of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; sister, Debbee (Tim) Christensen of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; two nieces, Tori (Chris) Smith of Wauwatosa, WI and Katy (Justin) Jessen of Minnesota City, MN and one great nephew, Keegan Smith.

Julie was preceded in death by her father, Charles and sister, Linda Morehouse.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial bench will be established in her honor, to remind us all to take a break and enjoy all of the beautiful things life has to offer.

Julie was my 1st friend & mentor when I started working at the courthouse in my high school years. The fun times we had "picking on" Curt Dittbrunner. She had him wrapped around her little finger! Aw, the good ole days. My Dad also feels the loss - he always enjoyed your visits in the parking lot & would refer to you as "Hi Dad" because you always said that to him! You have been a true & trusted friend for many years. I will miss you!

Julie was a dedicated and caring professional. She would always go out of her way to help anyone in the P & Z office. Her attention to details, history, and the wealth of knowledge she possessed will never be replaced. I am thankful you will have no pain and are resting in heaven for your much deserved rest. You will be greatly missed by all of the professionals both private sector and county employees working in Wood County.

Julie's retirement has left a void in the planning & zoning office, and her passing a void in our selves. I enjoyed hearing her vacation stories, stories about her great-nephew Keegan, and the funniest stories about dog-sitting!! We had some good laughs- and those are the things I wish she could have had so much more of in her future. Rest in peace Julie, and prayers to all your family.

Julie you will be missed! I am so glad I had the opportunity to be trained by you and work with you. I sure will miss your phone messages, "Your slippers are ready!" and then of course your follow up phone message. (Which is chuckle between us.) I hope that brought a smile to your face in heaven!!
