Lawrence Dewitt Obituary

Dewitt, Lawrence J.

Lawrence J. Dewitt, age 86, of Wisconsin Rapids, WI. passed away Thursday October 15, 2015 at his residence surrounded by his family.

Funeral services for Lawrence will be held at 11:30 AM on Monday October 19, 2015 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids, WI. Rev. Valentine Joseph will officiate the service. Visitation will be held on Sunday October 18, 2015 from 2:00 - 5:00 PM at Ritchay Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids and on Monday at the church from 10:30 AM until the time of services. There will be a rosary service held at 4:30 PM on Sunday. Entombment will take place at Forest Hill Mausoleum at a later date.

Lawrence was born on October 10, 1929 to Jenice and Magdalen (Rodock) Dewitt. Lawrence married Carol Oberle on April 14, 1956 and blessed with 50 years of marriage until the time of Carol's passing in 2006. Lawrence served in the Korean War with the U.S. Army. He was employed by Consolidated Papers, Inc. for more than 30 years. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish, hunt, and camp with his family. Lawrence served as a volunteer in the Boy Scouts of America in several positions of leadership. Lawrence was passionate about his volunteer work with the Tri-City Right to Life and was recognized by Wisconsin Right to Life with the "All In The Family" award for generations of pro-life work. Lawrence was awarded the local Community State Bank "Good People Award" in 1990 for service to his neighbors and community.

Survivors include his wife Patricia (Nolan) Dewitt; and step-son Steve Nolan; sister-in-law Fran Dewitt of New Zealand; children, Ann (Phil) Schmitz of Forestville, Paul (Rose) Dewitt of Weston, Dennis Dewitt of Green Bay, Mark and Darlene Dewitt of Wisconsin Rapids, Andy and Brenda Dewitt of Wisconsin Rapids, Francis Dewitt of Green Bay, Leo Dewitt of Wisconsin Rapids, Glenn Dewitt of Nevada, Donald Dewitt of Green Bay, Wayne Dewitt and Jennifer Netz of Wisconsin Rapids; grandchildren, Lucy Schmitz, Brian (Jamie) Dewitt, Chad (Staci) Dewitt, Becky Dewitt, Matthew Dewitt, Michael Dewitt, Alan (Connie) Dewitt, Brenda (Michael) Collins, Scott Dewitt, Jessica Dewitt, Shawn Dewitt, Jeremiah (Amanda) Dewitt, Dominic Dewitt, Samantha (Eric) Grossen, Carissa Dewitt, Eric Dewitt, Lucas Dewitt, Benjamin Dewitt along with 18 great grandchildren. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews and their families.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his first wife Carol (Oberle) Dewitt; parents Jenice and Magdalen Dewitt, step-mother Sally Dewitt, brothers Darrell (Sue) Dewitt, Dale (Norman) Dewitt, and Floyd Dewitt; sisters, Elizabeth (Louis) Klepps, and Dorothy Dewitt.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be sent to Tri-City Right to Life.

The family would like to thank Ministry Homecare Hospice and Dr. Craig Flinders for the wonderful care given to Lawrence.
