Peter was beyond memorable in my life. When I fjust recently found out he had died, I had to write a story to assuage my grief and to honor his role in my life. I met him on my first job as an apprentice electrician at the Wausau Hospital in 1978-79. What was unusual was that I was the first female in central Wisconsin to enter the "world of construction" and he was the first person to make me feel really welcome. In '79 when he became business manager he became a mentor, someone I could ask the questions I had no one else to ask and receive support and encouragement. I will never forget calling him just before the New Year, leading into 1986, saying "I need a job, wherever and now!" And he found that job for me in Downer's Grove, Illiinois. I was to be there for two weeks and ended up staying two years! It was life changing - my first time on the road, as a Tramp (the word for a traveler) away from all of my peers to show I could so the work and represent my local. Two years later, in 1988, a new opportunity arose in Wisconsin, a Training Director position in Madison overseeing 7 local apprenticeship programs. I applied and secured the job and Peter was on the board that oversaw the program. He was once again a mentor and a friend. I left that role in 1990 to pursue a long held dream of becoming an artist and with the mechanical skills learned in the trade, sculpture became a natural outlet for my art. Many men on construction jobs, including Peter, would confide in me and ask my opinion when faced with personal concerns. Perhaps that is why I ended up pursuing a further degree later, in Art Therapy and Counseling. We kept in touch through calls and then a visit to his lovely home in Oxford. Some time ago, but I can't pin down the year, Peter called me to accompany him to a Retirement Party with him at the Sky Club in Plover. We had such a great time.....so many faces I knew! He made me laugh late into the night. I shall never forgot his smile and that grin that still is evident in this photo. I cherish these memories and the stories he shared of his family and friends. He is and was a great man. Lois Johnson, MS ATR, LPC, Artist, Art Therapist, Electrician.

The expression that keeps going through my mind is "not just a great guy, but a great man". The world lost a tremendous person yesterday.

Uncle Pete was an engaged uncle for my entire life - that cool uncle you looked up to. He came to all the family events in Wisconsin - Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas and was always ready with a wry joke or some tease or another. I liked that when I would visit my folks in Stevens Point he would come by or invite us over to visit at his log cabin home in Oxford. He was cherished and will be missed.
