Yngve Emil Forsberg, age 90, of Wisconsin Rapids WI died peacefully at Atrium Acute Care in Wisconsin Rapids Monday August 7th, 2017, with his loving family at his side.

Emil was born in Stockholm Sweden March 29th 1927, the second of two boys born to Elisabeth and Ragnar Forsberg. Emil married Gunborg Maria Larsson on November 11th, 1950 in Enkede Sweden.

In February of 1957 "Emil" emigrated with "Marie" and their two young sons to pursue a new life in the United States. Settling first in Rockford IL Emil learned the bakery trade from his older brother who had emigrated several years earlier. Emil quickly became a master baker and in 1961 opened his own bakery (Swedish Home Bakery) in Middleton WI together with Marie. His wedding cake decorations in particular were works of art and watching his hands fly as he worked was an experience to behold.

Emil pursued his American dream with passion and seemingly endless energy. He built first one house in Rockford and then a second house in Madison in his "spare time" and very much with his own hands. In 1962, after barely more than the minimum five year waiting requirement, Emil and family swore allegiance to the United States of America and became proud citizens.

There was always more to life than work and Emil had a lifelong love of the water. In 1973 Emil built his dream home on Lake Sherwood south of Wisconsin Rapids. In 1975 he bought a bakery in Manitowoc and for five years he and Marie split their weeks between the two homes. Retirement allowed time for more extended road trips and together he and Marie visited every state except Hawaii.

Another of Emil's passions was woodworking. He built a truck camper, several wooden boats, a cedar strip canoe, many, many beautiful pieces of furniture and countless craftworks.

Emil is survived by: the love of his life Marie with whom he shared 67 years of marriage - two sons and daughter in laws, Lars & Iris Forsberg, Rice WA and Per Forsberg & Kathleen-Amundson Forsberg, Fall Creek, WI. - five grandchildren, Kell Forsberg, Rice WA, Aren Forsberg, Monroe WA, Nessa Bates, Colville, WA., Britt Forsberg, St. Paul, MN, Amanda Forsberg, Nicolett, MN - and four great-grandchildren. Emil was preceded in death by his parents and brother (Birger Forsberg)

Many thanks to all the friends and acquaintances in Rapids who have extended their love and condolences. A celebration of life will be held September 2, 2017 with family in Rice Washington.
