Jim was born on September 29, 1962, in
Rome, New York, to the late Pamela Johnson. He was raised in Holland Patent and educated in the Holland Patent Central School District. With a strong work ethic and determination, Jim went on to travel the country overseeing the construction of commercial buildings. He took great pride in the work he did, and the teams he led.
On June 15, 1984, Jim married the love of his life, Judith M. Elmer. For 47 years they built a life together filled with love, laughter, and unwavering partnership.
Outside of work, Jim found his peace on the water. As an avid bass fisherman, he cherished the countless days spent fishing with family and friends and looked forward to each summer, when he could spend time on the water competing in tournaments. Those who knew Jim, knew he valued the simple things most - time with the people he loved, a good day on the lake, and cheering on his beloved Buffalo Bills.
Above all, Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved deeply and lived with quiet strength, generosity, and loyalty to those around him. His presence, guidance, and sense of humor will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Judy; his children, Rachael (Mel) Sann, James (Alicia) Johnson Jr. and Marissa (Saige) Hernandez; and his cherished grandchildren, Savana, Melby, and London Sann; Hannah, Evelyn, and Caiden Johnson; Leland Hernandez; Jeffrey (Brooke) Sann; and Phillip (Akehmah) Sann. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Forest, Oakley, Dax, and River Sann. He is further survived by his siblings, Michael Reid, Robin Reid, Aaron Reid, and Todd Bolton; his step-siblings, Mike, Holly, and Jeanie Bolton; his brother in laws Tom and Geroge Elmer, and good friend Steve Mariano; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Jim was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Jennifer Lynn; his mother, Pamela Johnson, his stepfather, Michael Bolton; and the grandparents who lovingly raised him, Stewart and Jane Johnson.
Jim's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Saint Thomas Hospital for the compassion and care they provided, and to his employer, DBSI, for their kindness and support during this difficult time.
Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, March 16, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Dimbleby Funeral Homes, Inc., 40 Main Street, Whitesboro, with funeral services to follow.
