Joann L. Delaney, 71, of Utica, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Wynn Hospital in Utica, with her daughter Christie and son Jr. by her side.
Joann was born in Rome, NY on July 28, 1954, the daughter of Daniel and Viola (Webster) Delaney. She was raised in Rome and attended Rome schools, before moving to Utica and graduating from Utica Free Academy. At one time, Joann was employed as a nurse's aide at the Masonic Home in Utica. Joann was a devout parishioner, Eucharistic Minister and dedicated volunteer at Historic Old St. John's Church in Utica. She had a strong devotion to Jesus and the Blessed Mother, reading the bible and reciting the rosary daily. She was also a member of the Ladies of Charity. She loved doing puzzles and playing games; her favorites were Skip-Bo, Yahtzee, Rummy and Words with Friends on Facebook. She enjoyed going to bingo, the casino and the beach. Joann also enjoyed watching her favorite TV programs EWTN (the religious channel), The Wheel of Fortune, and the news. Her greatest joy was her beloved children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
Ms. Delaney is survived by her three loving children, Christie Hubbard, Leonard Hubbard, Jr., Tina Hubbard and Mark Malinowski Sr., and Mike Lyman that was like a son to her.; cherished grandchildren, Goddaughter Saralyn and Samuel Cavo, Sabrina and Doug Rouse, Tyler Hubbard & Fiancé Monica Blunt, Daniel Tripoli, II, Donald Pitcher, Jr. & Fiancé Jordan Laning, Mark Malinowski, Jr., Annabella Malinowski and Fiancé Alex Smith, Angelica Crescenzo, and Joshua Dukette; adored great grandchildren,; Vincent Cavo, Arianna Cavo and Samuel Cavo, Jr., Jordan Dawson, Landon Crescenzo, Asher Hubbard, Luca Pitcher and Alena Smith. Siblings; sister Drinda Pritchard and brothers Charles Delaney, Patrick and Leslie Delaney and Jonathan Delaney. Beloved Goddaughter Laura Tremblay as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She was predeceased by her precious baby boy Joshua Hubbard, siblings; sisters Kathaleen Bartlett and Dorothy Ross, brother Daniel Delaney, sister-in-law Marianne Delaney, brothers-in-law Earl Bartlett and Richard Pritchard, Goddaughter Theresa Westcott, and Friends; Dale Bartlett, Marcia Pritchard and Patrica Carey.
A very special heartfelt thank you to the Ladies of Charity, Sister Paula and Lillian Mazurowski for the visits, calls, gifts and things that made her smile.
Visitation for family and friends is Monday, November 3, 2025, from 9:00 am until 10:30 am at Historic Old St. John's Church, John St., Utica, followed by a funeral Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 am at the conclusion of visitation. She will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery in Rome, NY.
