Riggan Acosta Obituary

Riggan J. Acosta, 52, of Leander, TX passed away unexpectedly at his work residence in Utica, NY on Thursday, May 30, 2024. A tried and true Texan, he was born on August 22, 1971, in San Marcos, TX, the son of Alice (Acosta) Joh and Randy Joh. Riggan was a Senior Project Manager with Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, where he was known as "Big Rig." On May 28, 1995, Riggan married Tammy Belk, a loving union of 29 years. Riggan was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. His family was most important to him and he worked hard for them. He had an abundance of friends, touched many lives, and everyone who met him loved him. His family lovingly called him "Friggin Riggan". A die-hard Texas A&M Aggies and Pittsburgh Steelers fan, Riggan also loved live music, video games, movies and butter pecan ice cream. Riggan would often say there is no barbecue like a Texan barbecue. He enjoyed his rare steak and loved eating seafood, especially lobsters. He cherished his daily chats with his beloved grandson Bjorn. Surviving besides his wife, Tammy are his children, Darrien, Brianna, her husband, Mitchel, Xavier, and Jalen; grandson, Bjorn, who affectionately called him "Papa"; mother, Alice Joh; cousin, Jessica; aunt and uncle, Joe and Teresa Acosta. Riggan was predeceased by his father, Randy Joh; grandparents, Esteban and Maria Acosta; and aunt and uncle, Elvira and Oscar Flores. A Celebration of Life in Massachusetts and Texas will be announced in the near future. If you knew Riggan, you are comforted knowing he is now enjoying an endless supply of "duck farts". I was very saddened to hear about Riggan's sudden passing. I offer my heart felt condolences to his wife and family. He was a pleasure to know.
I was fortunate to get to work with Riggan in Oklahoma. For three years visiting the site at least once a month. He was very professional in all of our dealings and strove to get the job built right. He was also great to get to know personally over lunches, nice dinners, and chats in his office. My son who also got to work with Riggan professionally also was shocked when we heard about his passing. As a dedicated Penn Stater I enjoyed wearing my Texas A&M shirt for my new A&M friends on site. He will be missed, Rest in Peace.
