Robert Graham Obituary

Robert Hugh Graham, 72, of Gorton Lake Rd., took the outbound stage on Sunday, October 20, 2024. He was born the Bastille Day on July 14, 1952, in Central New York and was a graduate of New Hartford Schools, SUNY Morrisville and SUNY Oswego. He furthered his studies at NTTS Liverpool, Props, Bucks and the landing, with a major in trout fishing and storytelling.
His work history is a panorama of adventures and learning experiences throughout his years. Rob lived a full life romping and roving the hills of Gorton Lake and Central New York. He once claimed to have been to more waterfalls than anyone else alive. On a somewhat annual schedule, the comrades and recruits would be gathered for canoe trips, hunting and fishing, exploits, winter camp outs and just pure fun. "Rasputin" was always ready for a trip and gladly lead all denominations. He was rumored to be part fish and loved the water. Rapids and falls were to be ridden, tasted and jumped off he said. He was pre-disposed with rocks, the one habit he was most proud of all his years. He believed the spirit of God was kept in the rocks of the world if one listened carefully. He never saw a rock he didn't love. "Mount Marcy was the tallest rock I ever climbed." He loved to "wrestle n tussel" and could occasional could be heard wrestling the Gorton Lake turtle on moon lit summer nights. He never won.
He leaves his wife and forever bride Debra A. (Eastman) Graham, whom he married on Valentines Day of 2003 at Gorton Lake, two sons and daughters -in-law; Zachariah Robert and Michelle, of Hattiesburg, MS, and Daryl Hugh and Heather of Waterville, stepchildren, AJ Buell, Averi and Ellie, four grandchildren; Mike, Francis, Trystyn (Gwen Edwards) and Mason, one great grandson, Landon, his previous wife, Mary Beth Haight; a nephew, Chris (Marti) Graham and their daughter Morgan and a special friend and companion, Mr. Kitty "Tick Commander".
He is predeceased by his parents, Hugh and Velva (Flick) Graham and a brother, John "Jack" Francis – the guitar master.
He has no requests or bequests of anyone and wishes that each of us rise to watch the sunrise and witness the power of the sunset, have gratitude for all we have, smell as warm summer rain, count the snowflakes as they fall on your tongue. Remember the conditions of solitary bird. "Flies to the Highest Point": Does not have a definite shape, color, nor form; does not suffer for company, not even of his own kind, keeps his beak pointed toward the sky and speaks very softly.
A Service and Celebration of His Life will be begin at 2pm of Friday, October 25, 2024 at the Beaver Rod and Gun Club, 2929 West Lake Rd., West Edmeston, NY 13485.
"Rocks for Rob" Bring a rock in honor of Rob.
Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 210 E. Main St., Waterville, NY 13480.

I lost touch with Rob after high school, but reading his memorial reminds me of what a rugged individualist Rob was - and I mean that in the best sense of that term. Rob had great courage and an awesome sense of humor. I have fond memories of Rob as a powerful butterfly swimmer and team-member on Dicky´s (Coach Foster) Ducks at New Hartford High School. Rob, John Baird and I broke team rules when we went skiing @ Snow Ridge on New Year´s Eve Day! I will miss Rob and his adventurous spirit! His vitality was an inspiration.

Rob was a good friend of mine. He was 12 years older than me so he was one of my mentors at Gorton Lake! We grew up there being lovers of the Great outdoors and nature. Rob was one of those people that inspired you to enjoy the Earth that God gave us. What good memories what a good friend! Thank you Rob God bless you we will remember you!

Ever read an obituary and feel like you could´ve been besties with the dearly departed? This is one of those occasions. A spirit like his, never dies. You´ll find him in every drop of a gushing waterfall, in the gleam of a sunrise and on the wings of the tiniest nuthatch. Prayers and condolences to his dear ones.
