Sonja Skidmore Obituary

ROME - Sonja A. Skidmore, 82, of Rome, passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at Wynn Hospital in Utica. She was born on January 28, 1943 at home in Port Leyden, a daughter of Helen Shippers White and the late Joseph White Sr. Sonja grew up in Port Leyden and graduated from Port Leyden High School. She later moved to Rome and waitressed at several area restaurants for many years. She last waitressed at Campbell's Diner in Forestport. Sonja enjoyed canvas and stone painting, and her beloved cat Pumpkin. She is survived by two sons, Peter Egnew Jr. and William Joseph Egnew; her mother, Helen White; several grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, William White; and one sister, Joanne Fahey. Sonja was predeceased by one daughter, Heidi Sue Anderson; her father, Joseph White Sr.; and two brothers, Joseph White Jr. and Jeffrey White. There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held in Wildwood Cemetery at a future date to be announced. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mills Funeral Home, Boonville.
