Cindy Howard Obituary
Cindy Kay (Reeder) Howard
Born April 20th, 1950, in Danville, Illinois to the (late) Robert Richard Reeder and MaryLou (Duitsman) Reeder. She grew up in Lafayette, Indiana. After living in Fowler, Indiana for several years, she spent the remainder of her days back in Lafayette.
Cindy was a 1968 graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School, and graduated with an Associate's Degree from Ivy Tech Community College. She worked as a Certified Surgical Technologist for 47 years until she retired. Cindy worked in surgery for many years but eventually switched to Labor and Delivery, which became her true passion. Along with working full time at Home Hospital and St. Elizabeth East, she worked part time, as needed, over the years, as a first assistant for the physicians at the Women's Clinic, a clinical nursing instructor for Ivy Tech Community College with students in surgery, and a surgery tech at St. Vincent Hospital in Williamsport. After retirement from nursing, she then worked in the daycare at St. James Lutheran School. She loved her profession, and the people and physicians with whom she worked along side. She loved her job and all she did in the medical field.
She was married in July 1972 and later divorced in 1996. The real joy of her life was her children. She loved all the time spent with her daughters and all the fun she had with them. Her pride and joy was her grandchildren and she spent most of her spare time with them and loved just being "Mammaw" to them.
Cindy was previously a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Otterbein, Indiana, and a current member of St. James Lutheran Church. She was a member of Tri-Kappa and the National Association of Surgical Technologists.
The last two years of her life she reconnected with a childhood friend, Charlie, and he made her truly happy. They enjoyed being snowbirds and traveling between Florida and Indiana. They spent their time going to breakfast, swimming, watching movies and attending all the grandkids sporting events.
She is survived by her three loving daughters, Emilee (Neil) Klemme, Sarah (Chad) Widmer, and Rebecca (Justin) Ziegler, her grandchildren, Andrew, Grace, and Ryan Klemme, Joey, Isabella, Margaret, and Elizabeth Widmer, and Autumn Ziegler, all of West Lafayette, her sister, Candra Mathew and a brother Wayne (Joyce) Reeder, both of Lafayette, and her significant other, Charlie Collins of Orlando, FL.
In honor of her lifelong commitment to mothers and babies, both personally and professionally, donations can be made to The Franciscan NICU Fund supporting the Angel Room/Grief Room. https://franciscanallianceorg11745.thankyou4caring.org/western-indiana-giving?amount=undefined&program=Neonatal-Intensive-Care-Unit-(NICU)
