Dr. Jay Stewart Marks

Professor Emeritus Jay Stewart Marks, 87, of Battle Ground, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at University Place in West Lafayette. He was born on April 10, 1937 in Ottawa, Illinois to the late Walter Freeman and Orba Gladys (Stewart) Marks. Jay earned his PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Kansas. He worked for Mallenckrodt Chemical Works, and Ralston Purina. In 1961, he became a Professor at Purdue University in the Food Science Department. He had patents on Pulse Jet Drying and Whey Animal Feed Blocks. He also served as an EMT, and Volunteer Fireman, and was affiliated with the Institute of Food Technologists and Institute of Chemical Engineers. On April 1, 1961, Jay was married to Judith Ernestine Von De Linde in Mission, Kansas, and she survives. They were members of St. James Lutheran Church in Lafayette. In addition to his wife, Judith Marks, Jay is survived by his children, Karen Kay Earhart, Beth Ann Marks, and Andrea Dee (Keith) Williams; grandchildren, Christopher Lee Titus, Alissa Paige Salazar Cress, Henry Caleb Williams, Darian Nichole Williams, Devan Elise Williams, Katherine Alexa Williams, and Cameron Jay Walter Williams; and great grandchildren, Alexander Scott Titus and Charlotte Morana Cress. There will be a Graveside Service for Jay held at Battle Ground Cemetery on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at 4:30 p.m. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Tippecanoe Township Volunteer Fire Department (checks may be mailed to TTVFD, PO Box 254, Battle Ground, IN 47920).
