Amy Hoying Depp, 54, of Bellbrook, Ohio, unexpectedly passed away Sunday, April 10, 2022. Mrs. Depp was born March 27, 1968, in West Union, Ohio to Walter and Sharon Hoying of Sidney, Ohio.
Amy graduated in 1986 from West Union High School. From there she attended Ohio University where she received her Bachelor's in Education. Later Amy continued to pursue her love of education and attended the University of Dayton. There she received her Master's in Education and principal license.
She started her teaching career at Radcliffe Upper Elementary in Jefferson Township as a 6th grade English Language Arts and Social Studies teacher.
After a few years she went on to teach various grades within the Wilmington City School District. Most recently she taught 5th grade Math at Denver Place Elementary School.
As if being a teacher was not enough, she was also a dedicated cashier at Walmart for the past six years, where she spread her light to others by going the extra mile to make sure everyone felt loved and respected.
Amy's passions in life were teaching, raising Monarch butterflies, the beach, and her family. Throughout her time as a teacher, she touched the heart and minds of countless students. She always showed love and compassion to her students and peers. She always gave her all to her students; she inspired many and helped blossom young minds. Throughout her years as a teacher, she developed an incredible desire to share her passion for learning and science with her students.
In her free time, she would grow milkweed to attract caterpillars which she would then incorporate into her teaching. For years she inspired her students to learn by showing how caterpillars become beautiful Monarchs.
Amy loved to visit the various beaches on the coast. She loved walking on the beach and observing the glorious wonders the Lord has created. She would collect seashells to add to her wonderful collection.
She was a member of St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and loved God. It was evident in her daily life that she imitated Jesus Christ toward everyone she encountered. Amy was very close to her entire family and loved to host family birthdays and holiday gatherings at her home.
She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Timothy; daughter, Abigail; her parents, Walter and Sharon Hoying of Sidney, Ohio; and siblings, Doug (Amy) Hoying of Russia, Ohio, Debbie (Lou) Rose of Xenia, Ohio, Stephanie (Tim) Temelkoff of Hilliard, Ohio and Dr. Jennifer Hoying of Sidney, Ohio; her in-laws, Raymond (Eleanor) Depp of Reynoldsville, Pennsylvania; two sisters-in-law, Belinda (Gary) Short of Birmingham, Alabama and Nancy (Dan) Keller of Reynoldsville, Pennsylvania. She also has five nephews, four nieces, six great nieces, and nine great nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Steven Hoying, in 1972.
The family will greet friends and family Tuesday, April 19, 2022 from 4-8:30 p.m. at Westbrock Funeral Home, located at 5980 Bigger Road, Kettering Ohio. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church located at 6245 Wilmington Pike, Dayton Ohio. There will be a funeral procession after the Mass to Calvary Cemetery in Dayton, where she will be laid to rest.
Since one of her passions were her students, in lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted to help build a scholarship fund in her honor.
