Michael Haas Obituary

Michael Edward Haas (Mike) passed away at 6:58 a.m. on October 15, 2021 in Wilmington, Ohio, surrounded by his loving family.

Mike was born in North Canton, Ohio on April 13, 1969, the son of Richard and Patricia Haas.

He is survived by his wife, Jerri Haas; his sons, Joseph Haas and Eric Haas (Alexandra); step-daughter, Logan Madrigal (Julio); step-son, Adam Wolfe (Michaela); his dear grandchildren, Elaine Haas and Malachi Madrigal, Micah Madrigal, Mathias Madrigal, and Camila Madrigal; brother, Matthew Haas (Heather); sister, Elizabeth Byrum (Timothy); brother, Gordon Haas; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Mike spent his childhood in many cities across the Midwest and South before his family settled in North Canton, Ohio for his elementary school years, and then ultimately in Fairfax, Ohio.

He graduated from Purcell Marian High School (1987). Always keen to help others, Mike went on to graduate from the University of Cincinnati and Ohio University with degrees in Nursing (BSN) and was actively pursuing his Doctor of Nursing Practice from Bradley University until spring 2021.

Mike was a nurse for over 25 years in the Emergency Room, ICU, Oncology Floor, and Cardiology Floor at various regional hospitals, including Clinton Memorial Hospital and the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, the top-ranked trauma center in Southern Ohio. While at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, he served as Co-President of the Registered Nurses Association and worked in a variety of capacities, including as charge nurse.

Mike dedicated much of his life to giving to others and serving his community. He was a volunteer firefighter and EMT for 20 years in the Cincinnati community, answering the call at Mariemont Fire Department, Fairfax-Madison Place Fire Department, and Little Miami Fire & Rescue.

He annually participated in Toys for Tots, multiple school supply drives, food drives, and other forms of local service. In fact, during December, he would tell his family he had "Santa things" to do and would go out to give gifts and bring joy to the children of the community all day long.

Following in his father's footsteps, Mike served as the Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 399 in Cincinnati. While Scoutmaster, he guided many scouts (including his sons) to the rank of Eagle Scout. Drawing from his own experience as an Eagle Scout, he led more boys to the highest rank of Eagle Scout than any Scoutmaster in Troop 399's 75+ year history.

Mike was compassionate and strong-willed, and above all, he loved his family, always sharing his special gifts with them: the gift of learning, the gift of perseverance, and the gift of giving.

As his last act of service, Mike donated his physical remains to The Ohio State University to empower future medical professionals and further advance our fight against cancer.

A memorial service will be held 6-8 p.m. on Friday, October 29 at Fellowship of Praise Church located at 8625 US Highway 22 & 3, Clarksville, Ohio 45113.

In lieu of flowers, memorial funds may be directed to Toys for Tots at https://www.toysfortots.org/donate/forms/tribute/donation-form.aspx?nt=0 .

The entire family extends a heartfelt thank you to the nurses of Crossroads Hospice & Palliative Care Dayton, Ohio for their excellent and compassionate care.
