David Miller Obituary
loving family.
Born in Pawtucket, and raised in the Berkeley section of Cumberland, he
was the son of Eleanor (Casper) Miller of North Kingstown and the late Edwin
Miller. He was a lifelong resident of Cumberland.
Mr. Miller was the owner of Miller's Auto Body & Sales, Mendon Road,
Cumberland. During his working career, Mr. Miller served as a lobbyist, who
proudly represented the auto body industry in the state. He also was a
member of the Auto Body Association of R.I., and chairman of the R..I Auto Body
Collision Advisory Board.
David was a communicant of St. John Vianney Church. He was a past president
of the former Cumberland Business Association, and a former volunteer
firefighter of the Berkeley Fire District, serving as a lieutenant. He was a
past member of the R.I. Pilots Association, Cumberland Town Planning Board,
Experimental Aircraft Association, Narraganset Bay Commission and Cumberland
Lyons Club. He was also the past recipient of the Cumberland Boys and Girls
Club, Person of the Year, and recipient of the Cumberland Rotary Outstanding
Achievement Award. He was a member and supporter of the Cumberland FOPA. He
loved boating and being on the ocean. The biggest joy and pride of his life
were his children and grandchildren.
He leaves his children, David R. Miller of Cumberland, Candace E. Simas and
her husband, Philip, of Cumberland, and Jillian K. Lobisser and her husband,
John, of Bellingham; six grandchildren, the loves of his life, Darian,
Phillip, and Peyton Simas of Cumberland, and Chloe, Cassidy, and Charlotte
Lobisser of Bellingham; three brothers, Robert Miller of Smithfield,
Thomas Miller of Cumberland and Steven Miller of Lincoln; and his two sisters,
Paula Owen of North Kingstown and Barbara Branco of Cumberland. He also
leaves behind his loving companion, Pauleen Slater of Cumberland, and
countless other loving relatives and friends. He was the brother of the late
Edwin Miller.
A celebration of his life will be held Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at 11 a.m. from
the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Route 122, Cumberland. Mass of
Christian Burial at noon in the St. John Vianney Church, 3609 Diamond Hill
Road, Cumberland. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting Hours
will be held Monday, June 8, 2015 from 4 to 8 p.m..
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Cumberland -
Lincoln Boys and Girls Club, PO Box 7505, Cumberland, RI 02864.

We live our lives often not giving much thought to those who influence who we become. I joined the Berkeley Fire Department when I was 15. Dave was probably 20 at the time. As a teenager one is easily influenced and effected by others slightly older. If we are lucky we meet someone like Dave in our "formative years". In all my time there, Dave was a friend, mentor and big brother type. I'm probably a better person for knowing him. Years later whenever I would run into Dave in town he was always the same great guy. We've lost a good man.
