Douglas Smith Obituary

CENTRAL FALLS - Douglas C. Smith, 86, of Central Falls, died Saturday, October 7th at Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center in Providence. He was born in Canastota, New York, a son of the late Orrin and Zelma Smith, and was the step-son of Harry and the late Carrie Church. Douglas is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn (Kamps) Smith.
Mr. Smith worked as a horse groomer and trainer for many years at various racing venues throughout New England, including Narragansett Park, Twin River and Suffolk Downs. Besides his love of horses, he enjoyed music, dancing and most importantly attending Pace in Woonsocket.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his step-daughters, Brenda Bruhn and her husband Glenn of North Smithfield, Sharon Laliberte and her husband Mike of North Carolina, Robin Roggi and her husband Dennis of Connecticut, his brothers Dempsey Smith, Bobby Smith, Frederick "Benny" Smith and his sister Carriebelle Hayes. He also leaves several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sons, Douglas C. Smith, Jr., George Smith, and his brother, Rockingham Smith.
