Edward Charles Marchand

WOONSOCKET - Edward C. Marchand, 79, of Woonsocket, RI, died September 19, 2024 in Hartford Hospital, Hartford, CT. He was the husband of the late Marie A. (Cotnoir) Marchand, whom he married June 21, 1969. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Arthur T. and Lucille G. (Boutiette) Marchand.

Mr. Marchand earned his Bachelor's of Education Degree from Fitchburg State University. He was a guidance counselor for Woonsocket Middle School, retiring in 1999, had previously taught special education, and was the Varisty soccer coach at Woonsocket High School. Ed was an avid golfer, who enjoyed cooking, and was a trivia savant. He played hockey at Mt. St. Charles Academy, and had a yearly ritual of playing in their alumni game. Ed was very social, and loved spending time with his friends at various local clubs. He also enjoyed vacationing at Sugarloaf Mountain in ME, and Punta Gorda, FL.

He leaves his sons, Matthew Marchand and his wife, Maureen of Woonsocket, Daniel Marchand and his wife, Lindsay, of Lincoln and Andrew Marchand of Woonsocket; three brothers, Paul Marchand of Naples, FL, Jean Marchand of Mascouche, Quebec, and Jacques Marchand of North Andover, MA; two sisters, Louise Tompkins of Foxboro, MA and Susan Giuliano of North Smithfield; three grandchildren, Sophia, Luke and Sydney Marchand; and many nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held Thursday, September 26, 2024 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Joseph's Church, 1200 Mendon Rd., Woonsocket. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4-7 PM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket.
