Jerald Mayhew Obituary

BELLINGHAM - Jerald A. Mayhew, 80, of Bellingham died at UMass Memorial Medical Center, Worcester, MA on Monday, December 26, 2016. Mr. Mayhew was born in Wisconsin but lived in Bellingham since 1965. He was the son of Robert Bonner Mayhew and Lucille C. (Holstein) Mayhew who died in 1958 and 1977 respectively.
Mr. Mayhew is survived by his sons, Dan R. Mayhew of Bellingham, Robert Brian Mayhew and his wife Sharon of Holly Springs, NC, and daughter Julie A. (Mayhew) Davey and her husband John of Upton, MA. He is also survived by grandchildren Jessica, Peter, Megan, Cassidy, Emily and Brian and two great-grandsons. His former wife Marilyn A. (Beggs) Mayhew died in 2006.
Mr. Mayhew was a distinguished Military Graduate of St. Norbert College earning a degree in Business Management with disciplines in economics and finance. During his active duty time he served in the U.S. Army, Infantry as a Tactical Unit Commander.
In his civilian life he served Bellingham for 10 years as an elected Park Commissioner, 3 years as an elected Assessor and over 21 years as an elected Selectmen. Mr. Mayhew also served on numerous Ad Hoc Committees during his 40 plus years of Community Service.
Along with Roland Giles, Mr. Mayhew was also a founding Father of the Bellingham Youth Hockey Program in 1969. He served many years as President and Director during which time the Team of Giles/Mayhew was instrumental in Ice Hockey being accepted by the School Committee and the Athletic Director as an Interscholastic Sport. Mr. Mayhew also served two years as President of Little League Baseball.
Professionally, Mr. Mayhew was an Independent businessman, under contract with National and International Companies. His duties required extensive global travel. After assignments with Kimberly-Clark, New Balance, Franklin Sports, Jaclar, Patrick USA, Patrick International and Kazmaier Associates, he semi retired in 2001.
Mr. Mayhew will be cremated and his cremains will be interred at Scott Cemetery in a private ceremony.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Jerald A. Mayhew Memorial Scholarship Fund. All donations can be sent to: Bellingham School Administration Building, Attn: Jerald A. Mayhew Memorial Scholarship Fund, 10 Mechanic St., Bellingham, MA 02019.
The Mayhew Family will also be holding a Celebration of Life in Jerry's honor at Pete's Bluebird in the spring. The date will be announced at a later time. All are invited to remember Jerry and honor his commitment to the community he loved.
