Dear cousins and family related bij marriage, dear grandchildren from uncle Johannes.
On behalf of my mother Jeanne and myself, I write you this letter of sympathy with the passing away of your father Johannes, or as we used to say: ome Jan or Broer.
Mother told me he used to be her favorite brother with whom she always could get along in a pleasant way in the years before he left Holland.
Personally I have met him only as a schoolboy but remember him as a nice uncle who made little trips with us by car. [For we didnt have a car in those days] He also told me several times that I should cross the ocean to make my future in America. He left Holland because he had little opportunities to go to high school or so. My father and mother told me often that they too never had the chance to get higher education.
However life turned out to get better and I got all I needed to study and became a radiologist.
I still see my mother making parcels from the collected dutch newspapers we did send him every 3 or 4 months those first years he lived in the USA to give him some home feeling.
We also remember the period that our grandmother, Marie van de Koolwijk, went to America after her husband, Jan, Johannes father, had died. She stayed there for a whole year and ome Jan made a lot of trips with her eg to Disneyland. She talked a lot about this year. In the mean time she repaired all clothes and socks that were dropped in a corner because it was torn or had a hole.
When she died Johannes came to Holland with his wife Jean and 3 or 4 children. They stayed a few days in our house in Gennep in those days. I hear Johannes still say [in Dutch] and there we walked on Kennedy airport with little John dragging a dirty blanket behind him.
We will remember him as a pleasant person and hope you will find relief from your pain of losing him.
Warm greetings from Holland from Jans sister Jeanne [now 93 yrs] and her son, your cousin Hans [69], and his sisters Len [65] and Jeanneke [55].

Sorry to hear of Joannes passing. I remember spending time at his house as well as Manville with the whole family. Always lots of stories and laughs. When we got together the Hayes and Van Orsouw families were both large but we always had fun.

I had the pleasure of meeting Van several years ago. He never ceased to amaze me with his stories. His children where his favorite subjects. He was very proud of the family he and his wife created.
He will be missed.
The world will be a little less colorful without him!
My sincerest condolences,

I worked with Mr. Van Orsouw at the Eleanor Slater General Hospital in Cranston in the 1980's and 1990's. What a beautiful photo of him. I remember him as a kind, gentle approachable man who always put patients and employees first. He had a positive attitude and it was a pleasure to work for him.
My sympathies to his family.....may your memories console you....

Dear Family Vanorsouw,
We are very sorry to hear that our brother, ("Onze Broer" as we called him in the Netherlands) has past away. Although he lived in America, he was often in our Dutch minds.
We have seen the video, and it was nice to see that you all are so close to each other! It was nice to get a glimp of his live and his family-life in the states. With six children and all his grandchildren he did well, and most have been very proud! Living in the states, he still honerd his heritage as he called his ship: The Flying Dutchman. Best name ever!
We wish you all strenght tomorrow, and Onze Broer and you all will be in our minds.
Please be so kind to bring, on behalf of the whole Dutch Family van Orsouw, a last salute to Onze Broer.
With Love,
Tante Truus van de Braak-van Orsouw

I spoke to ome Broer last year as his brother Gerard, had lost his home address and wanted to send a letter. Unfortunately uncle Gerard didn't write the letter as he did not know what to write.(Unfortunately uncle Gerard also passed away recently).
Nice to finally see the face to the voice, what a remarkable man. And his family outnumbers ours!
Wish you all all the best, with this loss.
Hugs, jeanette van Orsouw-Popeijus .
