John F. Baseler Jr.

1929 - 2016

BELLINGHAM - John F. Baseler, Jr., 86, of Bellingham, MA passed away peacefully on Friday, May 6, 2016 at Parsons Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Worcester, MA.
He was the beloved husband of the late Emily M. (Kendra) Baseler. Born in Vandalia, IL on October 7, 1929, he is the son of the late John F. and Mary (Mathewson) Baseler, Sr. He is the loving father of John C. Baseler of Goshen, AK, Bradley S. Baseler and his wife Debra of Richmond, RI, Christine M. Conklin and her husband John of Bellingham, MA and Lee Ann Morgado and husband, Carlos of Medway, MA. He leaves his cherished grandchildren, Jason D. Conklin, Samual A. Conklin, Dale J. Morgado, Kendra L. Ryan and 7 great-grandchildren. He is the brother of Samuel M. Baseler of Grand Junction, CO.
John was a resident of Bellingham since 1966, formerly of Chicopee, MA and Crete, IL where he was raised. John was a mechanic for the US Postal Service in Boston for 11 years retiring in 1989. He was a member of the National Association of Federal Retirees N.A.R.F.E. He previously worked at the Springfield Armory for 6 years, the Army Research Center in Watertown, MA and Communications Manager in Watertown and Springfield.
John was a United States Air Force Korean War Veteran attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant and received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was a member of the American Legion.
John was a District Scout Executive in Massachusetts and Maine and a Troop Leader and member of Troop 100 Committee Bellingham. All his life John was involved with the Boy Scouts of America in many different capacities in many states.
Devoted to his family, John will be greatly missed.
Arrangements are private under the direction of Cartier's Funeral Home, Bellingham, MA. A Celebration of Life will be held in the fall.
