John Mendes Obituary
Born in Central Falls he was the son of the late Joseph and Ascenciao (Lopes) Mendes. He returned to Portugal with his parents at the age of 4 and returned to this country in 1944 settling in Cumberland.
Mr. Mendes was a Foreman employed by the former Glas-Kraft Corp, Slatersville for 30 years until his retirement. A communicant of St. Patrick Church, Mr. Mendes was also a member of the Cumberland, Lincoln, St. Aidan and former St. Patrick Seniors. He was also a member of St. Thomas Council K of C, Cumberland and an avid bowler.
Besides his daughter Marion Lafontaine he leaves another daughter, Claudia Hultgren of Cumberalnd. Also surviving are a brother, Manuel Mendes of Pawtucket and three grandchildren; Jeffrey Lafontaine, Hedi Delisle and Kristen Bradshaw and 6 great grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be held Friday at 9 a.m. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Rd. Rte. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick Church, Broad St., Cumberland. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cumberland. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
