Kathryn Elizabeth (Feeney) Whiting, 94 went peacefully home to be with her Lord on November 19, 2021 at home on Scott Street in Bellingham. She became the wife of George E. Whiting on June 10, 1945 when they were married at the First Baptist Church, Bellingham, MA. They were together for 80 years and married for 76 years, until her passing. She only missed celebrating her 95th birthday by a few days.
Born December 3, 1926 in New York City, she was the only daughter of Henry C. Feeney and Kathryn E. (Steigerwald) Feeney Garriepy (Edward). She has been a resident of Bellingham since infancy. She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Ann Mitchell (Mark) of Arvada, Colorado and her son, Dale Alan Whiting (Helen) of Bellingham, two grandchildren (Justin Jones and Sarah Mitchell), and two great-grandchildren (Ashley Jones and Colton Jones). She was grandmother to the late Luke Whiting Mitchell.
Kathryn graduated from Bellingham High School in 1944 and has served as chairperson on all of her class reunions. She graduated from Wilfred Academy of Cosmetology in Boston in 1947 and shortly after opened Kay's Beauty Shop in South Bellingham which she operated until 1961 when Kathryn and George opened Country Charm Beauty Salon on South Main Street in Bellingham.
Kathryn was a member of the Bellingham Grange, a charter member of the Bellingham Historical Commission, and active in the PTA. She became a member of the First Baptist Church of Bellingham at the time of her marriage, serving as the church treasurer for many years. She was proud of her position as the first woman deacon who was allowed to preach and conduct the services on two occasions.
As a volunteer at the Ballou Home for the Aged in Woonsocket for over 35 years, Kathryn's service included acting as treasurer and president on the board of directors. She was committed to the care and well being of the elderly. Kathryn was devoted to her family and embodied a graciousness to all who knew her. She enjoyed reading her Bible and read it from cover to cover at least 15 times. Kathryn and George enjoyed traveling in their motor home and have toured the USA from coast to coast. She was an active member of the Good Sam Club.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, November 29th from 4PM to 7PM at Cartier's Funeral Home, 151 So. Main St. (Rte 126), Bellingham, MA. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, November 30th at 11:00AM at the First Baptist Church, 39 Mechanic St., Bellingham, MA. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
