Louis Conca Obituary

WOONSOCKET - Louis F. Conca, Jr., 94, of Woonsocket died Saturday at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the husband of Claire M. Turcotte Conca since 2005 and the late Marguerite M. (Devitt) Conca who passed away in 2003 after over 56 years of marriage.
Born in Providence he was a son of the late Louis and Rose (Figliolini) Conca, Sr. He was raised in Providence and was a graduate of Central High School.
Mr. Conca served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the European Theater and attained the rank of Master Sergeant.
Following his service he was employed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers until his retirement in 1973. He was the New England Division Chief of Operations.
Mr. Conca was a member of the Italian-American Society in Providence and the Knights of Columbus. A published author he has 5 books to his credit and was a member of the National Society of Poets. Among his many interests were painting, creative writing and his aptitude for computers. A gregarious and outgoing gentleman he was able to connect, converse and socialize with whomever he came in contact with. Proud of his service to his country both during WWII and in his civilian career with the Army Corps of Engineers. Devout in his Catholic faith throughout his life he served as a Eucharistic Minister, attended Blessed Sacrament Parish during his years in Providence and was a communicant of St. Joseph Parish in Woonsocket.
In addition to his wife he is survived by four sons Stephen F. Conca of Townsend, MA, Michael D. Conca (Cheryl Sperber) of Delran, NJ, James L. Conca (Judith Wright) of Richmond, Washington, Thomas J. Conca (Karen) of Cranston, and three daughters Nancy Conca of North Attleboro, Mary Lou Conca (Ray Petit) of Lincoln and Elizabeth Conca of Dighton, MA. 5 grandchildren Kelly Conca, Jon Conca-Petit, Julie Conca, Jesse Conca and Kevin Spencer. He was the brother of Anthony Conca of Warwick, Raymond Conca (Diane) of North Providence and the late Sylvia Mernick. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families and his wife Claire's family including her daughters Claire Senecal and Suzanne Berman and their families.
His funeral will be Saturday at 9:30 am from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in St. Joseph Church, 1200 Mendon Rd. Woonsocket. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours are Friday from 5-7 pm.
