Paul Jalbert Obituary

MYSTIC, CT - Paul Edward Jalbert of Mystic passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2015. Born September 16, 1930 in Woonsocket RI, he was the only son of Gabriel and Esda (Jarret) Jalbert. He attended Woonsocket public schools and Worcester Polytechnic Institute, graduating in 1953 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. After being commissioned as an Ensign, his first assignment was Assistant Engineering Officer aboard the minesweeper USS Sprig based in Charleston, SC. The next duty was Engineering Officer aboard the wood minesweeper USS Sagacity being built at Luders Shipbuilding in Stamford, CT.
In 1954 he and Dorothy St. Hilaire were married. In 1955, upon completion of military obligations, he accepted a position with the Nuclear Engineering Department at Electric Boat and became a registered professional engineer. A resident of Mystic since 1959, he was a member of the Mystic Lions Club and a recipient of their Melvin Jones Fellow Award for humanitarian service. Paul was also a member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. In 1974, he resigned his position at Electric Boat and, with several other EB engineers, started Proto-Power Corporation, with the goal of servicing the electric utility industry. After nearly twenty years of helping the organization grow, he retired and enjoyed traveling with Dottie in Europe and the US. He earned his private pilot certificate in 2001.
Paul leaves his beloved wife Dorothy; his sister, Lorraine Richards; his daughter, Amy, and son-in-law Michael Kennedy, of Groton Long Point; son Paul and daughter-in-law Martha of Ravenna, Ohio; son Peter and daughter-in-law Laura of Marblehead, Massachusetts; and son Adam of Mystic; Paul is survived by five grandchildren who loved him very much: Jarret Jalbert, Christoper and Nicholas Kennedy, Oliver and Henry Jalbert, and a great-granddaughter, Cora Jalbert. He leaves behind several nieces and nephews who will treasure their childhood memories with Uncle Paul. Paul's sister, Marie Vose, predeceased him.
The family thanks the staff at Avalon Health Center. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

I was hired many years ago by Paul at Proto-Power. Paul was a pleasure to know as well as work for. After 20+ years I was forced to leave for health reasons. However I left with the fondest memories of Paul, Dottie and his boys. God Bless - will always remember.

To the Jalbert family,

I worked with Paul at Proto-Power for several years prior to his retirement and several months ago had the opportunity to chat with him via email. He was a kind man, and we had a great time catching up on family activities. I am very sorry for your loss and will keep you in my prayers during this difficult time.
