Rita Carpenter

WOONSOCKET - Rita M. (Provencal) Carpenter, 89, of Woonsocket, passed away peacefully, May 20, 2017, surrounded by her loving family, in Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket. She was the wife of the late Russell B. Carpenter. Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Olithor and Marie (Bouchard) Provencal.

Mrs. Carpenter worked as a housekeeper for Dean College, retiring in 1990. Rita was a devout Catholic, and is remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her three children, Julie Mowry and her husband, Robert, and Russell Carpenter and his wife, Christine, all of North Smithfield, and Marie Carpenter of Woonsocket; her brother, Ernest Provencal of Wrentham; six grandchildren, Jon Sawyer, Matthew and Jason Carpenter, and Zachary, Kristyn and Kasey Mowry; and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by five brothers, Armand, Charles, Gerard, Leonard and Paul Provencal, and two sisters, Julienne Carriere and Anne Nahas.

Her funeral will be held May 24, 2017, at 8:30 a.m. from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Anthony's Church, 128 Greene St, Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, 314 Wrentham Road, Bellingham. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New England Humane Society, 2606 Bronco Hwy, Harrisville, RI 02830.
