Rita M. Verrier

1924 - 2018

CUMBERLAND - Rita Mary (Richardson) Verrier, age 94, passed away in Cumberland, Rhode Island home on Saturday, June 2, 2018. Born in North Smithfield, Rhode Island on May 21, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Edward Thomas and Melina (St. Pierre) Richardson. She was raised and educated in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. At a young age, Rita took a job with Woonsocket Mills, to help support her family.
Rita met the love of her life, David H. Verrier, on a blind date, when he was home from his active duty assignment in the military. Four days later, she introduced David to her parents and they were married on September 6, 1947 in Saint Paul's Church in Blackstone. The young couple made their home in Cumberland and as a devoted wife, Rita took on the role of a homemaker, raising and caring for her young family, in addition to caring for some of her nieces and nephews.
Rita kept a busy social calendar, as she and David enjoyed square dancing with the Cadrill Dance Group and taking bus trips with the Royal Travelers. In her more recent years, Rita was a devoted member of Saint Joseph's Church Senior Citizens. After David became ill, Rita never left his side, compassionately caring for him through his passing. After David's death, Rita continued traveling, visiting casinos around the country, making stops in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Foxwoods, Mohegan Sun, and Twin River, in addition to traveling back and forth to Pompano Beach, Florida. Back at home, she enjoyed completing word searches and spending time with friends and family.

Loving mother of David J. Verrier and his wife Sheila of Cumberland. Cherished grandmother of Nicole Verrier and her husband Clive Butler of Gaitherburg, Maryland and Daniel J. Verrier of Cumberland. Sister of Irene Dugas of Woonsocket, Alice Cifizzari of Woonsocket, Lucille Beaudion of Woonsocket, Shirley Gravel of Woonsocket, the late W. Thomas Richardson, the late Leo Richardson, the late Walter Richardson, the late William Richardson, the late Eileen Tetreault, and the late Celia Cournoyer.
Also survived by her niece Judy Gagne of Cumberland and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a Memorial Mass for Rita and David in Saint Joseph's Church, 1200 Mendon Road, Woonsocket, RI 02895 on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at 10:00 AM.
