Robert Taylor Obituary

SEEKONK - Taylor, Robert R., 87, retired Chief of Police of Seekonk, formerly of Bergeron St., died Sunday Feb 15, 2015 at the Life Care Center of Attleboro. He was the husband of the late
Marjorie (Eames) Taylor. Born Oct 5, 1927 in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Nelson and Viola (Denton) Taylor.
Mr. Taylor enlisted into the Rhode Island Militia at 17 years of age before transferring into the United States Maritime Service (Merchant Marines) and served during World War II as a Steward's Mate Second Class. Bob was a police officer for the Town of Seekonk from 1956-1984 and was Chief of Police from 1981 until retiring in 1984. Bob wasn't retired for long as he worked part time for the Bristol County Sheriff's Dept. and as a special policeman for North Attleboro.
Bob enjoyed horseback riding, camping, and traveling by RV to almost all of the United States and Canada with Marge. He was always ready and willing to go out to eat especially for seafood and ice cream.
He is survived by 6 sons, William (Donna), James, Robert, Paul (Tami Minck), Russell, and Donald Taylor; 12 grandsons, Geoffry, James, Christopher, Michael, David, Kevin, Daniel, Thomas, Adam, Eric, Matthew, and Robert Taylor; and 4 great grandchildren. Bob is also survived by a special step granddaughter Tracy Berman
Bob was predeceased by his wife Marjorie, son Thomas Taylor, daughter-in-law Elizabeth Taylor and sister Barbara Chretian.
His funeral will be held Friday, Feb. 20, at 10am in the Rebello Funeral Home and Crematory, 901 Broadway, East Providence. Burial with military honors will take place at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Calling hours will be Thursday, 4pm until 7pm. www.rebellofuneralhome.com

I had the pleasure of working with you as Captain, and the Chief of police in the early 80's. Then you made me a Deputy Sheriff to work with you again. Now we became friends and worked together. You were tough, but fair, and loved his family. RIP Chief.

It was wonderful to spend the last year of Bob's life getting to know him better at the Life Care Center. Every Wednesday he would wait for me to come in so he could get his Ice Cream cone and cookies. He loved talking about his life as a policeman to someone from Seekonk. It was my pleasure to be part of the last year of his life. You will be missed my friend.

I have very fond memories of Bob (and Marge)as well as most of the Taylor family. One of my favorite is camping with Bob and his family in Vermont and Papoose Pond, Maine. We had great times as many Seekonk families would go at the same time together. The fun times with all the teens as well as remembering our parents around the campfire being silly will always be cherished. My sympathy to the Taylor family. Bob will be remembered by me as a kind and gentle sole.

I have such fun memories of Bob (and Marge)as well as the entire Taylor family. It seems like such a long time ago camping in Vermont and at Papoose Pond in Maine. We had half the campground filled with Seekonk families! I will never forget the great times with all the teens as well as our parents behaving silly around the campfires. LOL. Bob will be remembered by me as a kind and gentle sole. My sympathy to Bob's family.
