William Schnorr Obituary

WOONSOCKET - William "Bill" Hart Schnorr passed away March 21, 2018 in the care of his family. He was born September 30, 1925, to Edward Henry Schnorr and Stella Hart Schnorr (Tabor) in Slatersville, Rhode Island.
He grew up on a dairy farm in Slatersville with his parents and paternal grandparents. He was the middle boy of three, with Edward Jr. older than he, and Donald younger. Their family sold ice, milk and heating fuel in town. He had vivid memories of the 1938 Hurricane and how he and Eddie had to take care of milking all the cows in spite of the storm.
Not to be left behind because he was only 17 years old, he fibbed about his age and joined on to serve his country in WWII in the Army Air Corps as a bombardier and gunner with 94th Bomb Group, 410th Squadron and was stationed in Bury St. Edmonds, England. Upon returning home, he started Schnorr Construction and built his business, doing excavation, paving, well-digging and more. He loved to work hard and play hard. He played hockey in the North Smithfield Old Timers' League until he was 65 years old. In 1984, he moved to Dixfield, Maine to care for his father and has remained there since that time. Not one for the retired life, he purchased a Woodmeiser Saw Mill and started "Bill's Mill", traveling around the area to saw wood and working side-by-side with his wife, Fe. He also had a sap house on his property and made good quantities of maple syrup....always a busy man.
Bill had many friends over the years and loved to recall times spent fishing, hunting, water-skiing, traveling and pool parties. He made several fishing trips to Alaska over the years. In 2015, he visited Washington, DC as part of the Honor Flight program to see the World War II Memorial. He has also been interviewed for part of a Slatersville documentary, as he had memories to contribute of the old Slater Mill, where he delivered ice as a boy (they used the ice in their dye room).
He is survived by his wife, Fe Aleon Schnorr, as well as children, Duane and Monique Schnorr of Pascoag, RI; Donna and Michael Hoffer of Florida; Susan Grey of Nantucket; Lynn Schnorr of Stratton, ME; Jill Schnorr of Portland, ME; Ming Feng Schnorr of Dixfield, ME, and step-children, John Farrell of Covina, CA; Sally and Luc Gervais of Uxbridge, MA. He was predeceased by his son, Kevin Schnorr and step-daughter, Mary Lee Farrell. He also has seven grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Togus Veterans Administration, Maine Veteran's Home, and Androscoggin Home & Hospice for their kind care.
A graveside service will be held March 27, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the Slatersville Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in his memory to Honor Flight of Maine, PO Box 1770, Portland, ME 04104-1770. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Holt Funeral Home, 510 S. Main St., Woonsocket.
