Barbara Hurn

Barbara J. "Babs" Hurn, 93, of Durand, IL died Tuesday, August 12, 2025. Born on September 14, 1931, the daughter of Bert & Mary Simoens. Babs attended St. Stanislaus Grade School and Muldoon High. Babs worked in Simoens General Store and Sundstrand. Married J.M. (Jay) Hurn on October 16, 1954, a good ole boy from Walnut Ridge Ark. Babs helped run their business, A-1 Sanitary Service from their home. Jay preceded her in death on February 4, 2008. Barb enjoyed being the creator and caretaker of Stumpy, Shirland's Landmark. She was proud of and is survived by her four children, Jan Pausteck, Jody Winterland, Chris (Dan) Williams and Jim (Rachel) Hurn; and enjoyed her four grandchildren, Justin Mathis, Benjamin (Brittany) Pausteck, Jacob and Aubrey Hurn and great-grandchildren Daisy and Hazel Pausteck. Babs enjoyed visiting with her brother, Bob Simoens and they missed their brother, Ed. A Funeral Ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 18, 2025 in McCorkle Funeral Home - Rockton Chapel, 767 N. Blackhawk Blvd., Rockton, IL with Chaplain Roland Brown officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of Ceremony on Monday. Final resting place to be Shirland Township Cemetery. A Celebration of Life Luncheon will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, August 18, 2025 at Shirland United Methodist Church, 8030 North Street, Shirland, IL.
