"Mama Jones" is what she was called throughout the community for her loving heart and listening ear. She lived up to this name "Mama Jones", because she was a "Mama" to many young and old. She also had a love not only for cooking, but loved to enjoy a good meal from others, if it was to her liking. As life progressed, you would find her sitting in her reclining chair watching the stories, Let's Make a Deal, or Wheel of Fortune, and all the time telling everyone on these shows "What they should have done", and if they didn't she'd just wave her hand in frustration. If you came to visit and she didn't remember your name, your name became "Hey Baby". As my (her sister) fondest recent memory, every time we talked since her 99th birthday, she would often say "You still coming to my 100th birthday party? I would say if I'm still living and you are still living, I'm coming. She would say to me I'm going to be here, but I don't know about you, but I'll be here. So, on July 25th, 2025, She had her 100th birthday party, and I was there, and we had the party. She lived 100 wonderful years, she was young at heart and always had a sense of humor and laughter.
She leaves to cherish in her memory-Reverend Mary J. Purifoy (Sister), Her children-Shirley, Jesse (Martha), several grandchildren, and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Her special niece, Woman, who was more than a great niece, she was her caretaker, and she often called her "My better half".
