Leanora Porter

Leanora Porter, of Rockford departed this earthly life July 30, 2025. She was born July 5, 1937 in Meridian, MS the daughter of Charlie and Florence Gordan. Leanora lived in Rockford over 40 years coming from Detroit, MI. She was employed as a nurses aid at a nursing home in Chicago. Leanora was a member of United Faith Missionary Baptist Church serving on the Mothers Board and a former member of St. Martin Baptist Church while in Chicago. She attended school in Mississippi. Leanora leaves to cherish many loving memories, her son, Matthew Porter Jr; two daughters, Willie Mae Sanchez and Evelyn (Mark) Williams; 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; two sisters, Irene Hedge and Jennie Mae Whitley; a host of nieces, nephews cousins other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents; granddaughter, Tammy Starks; 5 sisters; and 3 brothers. Services will be held 12:00 noon Monday, August 11, 2025 at Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home Inc. 200 N. Johnston Ave. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
