Shirley Cotter Obituary

Shirley J. Cotter, 95, of South Beloit, IL, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 in Beloit Memorial Hospital.She was born October 31, 1929 in Beloit, WI, the daughter of Eldon W. and Edna (Ford) Perry. Shirley was a 1947 graduate of South Beloit High School, South Beloit, IL. After high school she began working as a bookkeeper for an automobile sales business in Beloit, and later worked in the Personnel Department at Freeman Shoe Company as an employee insurance representative.On August 20, 1949, she married Jerry Cotter in the Methodist Parsonage in Paducah, KY, and lived for a time in Pueblo, CO, before returning to this area to settle in. Jerry built their family home in South Beloit where they raised their four children together for many wonderful years.Shirley worked as the business manager of the Greater Beloit Home Nursing Service for 16 years, retiring in 1989 to begin traveling with Jerry to Alaska, the British Isles and European countries. She was a member of the DAR and also the Martha Circle at the First Methodist Church in Beloit for many years. Shirley enjoyed researching family history and genealogy, playing cards with friends, and watching wild turkeys and families of deer wandering through the woods in her backyard. She has loved and appreciated her golden retriever, Lily Belle for the past 10 years as they enjoyed their sunset years together.She is survived by her caring and loving family, Patrick (Mary) Cotter of Rockton, IL, Daniel (Cathy) Cotter of Platteville, WI, and Teresa (John) Jacobsen of Woodstock, IL; 11 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Jerry; son, Vince; grandson, Jeremy Cotter; brothers, Robert, Donald and Ted Perry; niece, Louise and nephew, Paul Perry.A Funeral service for Shirley will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2025 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with Pastor Ryan Sutton officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation of remembrance will be from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service Wednesday in the funeral home.
