Wanda Swartwood Obituary

Wanda F. Swartwood, 73, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 6, 2025, after a two-year battle with metastatic lung cancer. She was born on October 14, 1951, in Kings Mountain, KY, the daughter of Cecil and Pauline Derry. She was raised and educated in Kings Mountain before moving to Machesney Park, IL, in 1968. On July 13, 1973, she married Dan Swartwood in Loves Park, IL. Wanda worked at Clinton Electronics before she got married. Afterward, she was a homemaker and a natural caretaker. She dedicated many years to caring for her mother, Pauline, and her grandson, Zachary. She worked at Walmart for four years before retiring. Wanda was known for talking to anyone at any time. She loved conversing with people and caring for others. She also enjoyed playing Facebook games. She is survived by her husband; daughter, Shelia Swartwood; grandson, Zachary Swartwood; sisters, Vivienne (Darwin) Richmond and Ann (Bob) Mitchell; brothers, Jack (Vernie) Derry, William Gary Derry, and Ronald (Ida) Derry. He was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Frankie Derry and Jimmy Derry; sister-in-law, Marilyn Derry; and son-in-law, Bobby L. Miller. The Swartwood family wishes to thank the Mercy Health Cancer Center and Mercy Hospice. A private family service will be held. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Wanda F.
