Brandon "Pokey" Hamilton Obituary

Brandon "Pokey" Wade Hamilton, age 41, of Jasonville, passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at his residence. He was born in Linton, Indiana on July 24, 1984, the son of Tony Wade and Dana Renee (Greene) Hamilton. Brandon's nickname, Pokey, came from his younger days on the baseball diamond, always "poking" around the bases with a grin with the baseball in the outfit, often hitting home runs. A proud graduate of Shakamak High School's Class of 2003, Brandon built his career in the heart of Indiana. He worked at the Merom Power Plant for over two years in operations and dedicated more than 15 years to Bear Run Mine, where coworkers called out for "Hillbilly" when they needed him. Through hard work, he made lifelong friendhsips in every place he worked. Brandon's love for the outdoors was truly the soul of who he was. From the moment he could walk, he could be found trailing quietly through woods with a fishing pole or learning the respectful patience of the hunt. He was a skilled fisherman, steadfast and always ready for the perfect cast, and a hunter with deep love for the land. Mushroom hunting was a yearly tradition, and he had an uncanny ability to find them by the pound, often bringing home enough to share with friends and family. In recent years, his sense of adventure led him west to Colorado, where he and his brother Brock, alongside close friends, embarked on rugged hunting trips. Brandon was strong as an ox, thriving in the wild places and the love for outdoors and his family showed. He was an 18-year member of the S.A.L Jasonville Post #172, spent 8 years with Masonic Lodge #530, and belonged to IBEW Union 1393 for 2 years. Brandon is survived by his parents; his loving wife, Ember Hamilton; children, Justin (Hallee), Brayden (Alyssa), and Alyssa; grandchildren, Willow, Luna, and Dutton; sisters, Kelly (Lisa) Hamilton and Dina Chesterfield; his brother and best friend, Brock (Samantha) Hamilton; nieces and nephews Lexy Maree, Koye Netherlain, Evie Mac Hamilton, Elaim Wade Hamilton, Mason James Hamilton, and Emilia Faye Hamilton; uncle, Todd (Trish) Greene; aunt, Britany (Rick) Loudermilk, as well as many cousins, lifelong friends, and beloved animals Ruger, Colt, and Petey. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Vernon and Janice Hamilton; and maternal grandparents, Richard and Janice Greene. A celebration of "Pokey's" life will be held on Saturday, August 23 at 2:00PM, with stories and memories until 5:00PM at his residence. Flowers may be sent to his residence at 14303 South County Road 500 West, Jasonville, Indiana for the celebration of life. Memorial contributions are kindly suggested to Shriners Children's Hospital. Arrangements have been entrusted to Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton. Online condolences may be left at www.welchcornett.com. .
