Clellan Thornton Obituary

Clellan Leon Thornton, age 89, of Linton, Indiana, peacefully passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at 5:15 pm at Glenburn Nursing Home. He was born on February 18, 1936, in Bloomington, Indiana, Clellan was the cherished son of Harry Leon Thornton and Nellie (Troth) Thornton. A proud graduate of Bloomington High School, Clellan answered the call to serve his country with honor and courage. He enlisted in the National Guard and later served bravely in the United States Army during both the Vietnam War and Desert Storm. His dedication and sacrifice will always be remembered. Following his military service, Clellan brought his skill and passion to Fox's Cycle, where he worked as a mechanic for thirteen years, earning the respect and friendship of many. Clellan was a devoted member of the Odd Fellows and found his greatest joy in the love and laughter of his family. He is lovingly survived by his son, James Keith Thornton; daughter, Debra (Norman) Ayers; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild, all of whom carry forward his spirit and love. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, William E. Thornton; brothers Henry, David, and Richard Thornton; sister Erma Thornton; and several cousins. A Celebration of Life to honor Clellan's memory will be held at the VFW in Linton, Indiana at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions be made to the VFW, supporting a cause close to his heart. Arrangements have been entrusted to Welch & Cornett Funeral Home.
