Marcus Leavitt Obituary

Marcus "Mark" Edward Leavitt, age 69 of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away on Friday, August 8, 2025, at home peacefully & surrounded by his loving family. Mark was born on January 24, 1956 in Greene County to parents Robert Eugene Leavitt and Jeanne Carol Leavitt-Bays. He attended both Worthington Jefferson High School and Terre Haute North High School. Mark earned a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, where he was an active member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. This education led to a lifelong career in the magnet wire industry that empowered him to travel and see the world. Throughout his career, he was not only a hard worker but also celebrated the relationships he made, being a friend, student, and mentor to his peers. In his personal life, Mark's family was his top priority. He will be forever known as a Son, Brother, Uncle, Partner, his favorite title, Father, followed closely by his second favorite title, Grandpa. His greatest achievement was becoming a father. He was patient, kind, and lived up to his self-motto of "Give It 110%". This selfless pattern followed Mark through life into all the incredible relationships he made along the way. His "garage" was his sanctuary, with the door always being open to anyone who needed a hand, advice, or just a good conversation. He celebrated the shared energy of being with others, from family reunions or a sporting event; he was no stranger to a good time. Mark is survived by his children, Matthew Edward Leavitt [42], Staci Lea Johnson [39], granddaughter, Violet Reign Leavitt [9], step-mother, Billie Leavitt, siblings, Vicki Messick, Beth Ann Miller, Mary Leavitt, Sarah Fugate, Jeri Tullius, and Robert Leavitt Jr. He is also survived by his long-time partner, Julie Denny, her five daughters, and their families. Mark is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Eugene Leavitt, Jeanne Carol Leavitt-Bays, and siblings Todd Leavitt, and Lydia Leavitt. In lieu of a funeral, all friends and family will be welcome to join our celebration of Mark's life. Details to follow, we are planning something in October.
