Janice G. (Focht) Smithson, 90, of Exeter Township, passed away on Friday, October 17, 2025 at Berkshire Commons. She was the wife of Walter R. Smithson III, of Exeter. Born in St. Lawrence, she was the daughter of the late Daniel H. and Grace M. (Demming) Focht. Janice graduated from Mt. Penn High School. She was a member of Schwarzwald Lutheran Church, where she was very active. Janice was a part of the Church Council, a Sunday School Teacher, sang in the choir, and was the interim Christian Ed Director. Janice was employed by Forest Hills Memorial Park as their office manager for nine years until her retirement.
In addition to her husband Walter, Janice is survived by her children; Gregory A. Miller, husband of Kelley, Kenneth R. Smithson, husband of Barbara, David S. Smithson, and Tammy L., wife of John Germain. She is also survived by five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and one sister, MaryJane Van Ord, of Newport, NH. Janice was preceded in death by her son Donald S. Miller in 1984.
Visitation with family and friends will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 from 10:00am to 11:00am with services beginning at 11:00am at Schwarzwald Lutheran Church, 250 Church Lane, Reading, PA 19606. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park, 390 W Neversink Road, Reading, PA 19606. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Janice's memory to Schwarzwald Lutheran Church Memorial Fund at the above address. Lutz Funeral Home, Inc., has been entrusted with arrangements.
