John McBryde Obituary
John Wallace McBryde, III, age 74, was born October 15,1950, in Memphis, Tennessee. He was surrounded by family and friends as he passed peacefully into the presence of our Lord, July 30,2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle in Columbus. John lived in the Cedar Bluff area of Clay County. John leaves his wife of 49 years, Janet Rose McBryde, one sister, Jana McBryde Manning (Keith) of Clay County, two brothers-in-law, Arthur Lee Rose (Carol) and Paul Rose (Joyce) of Texas, three nieces, Kelly Manning Banik (Robert), Katie and Devin Rose, two nephews, Davis Manning and Cameron Rose, one aunt, Paula Davies, and a number of great-nieces and great-nephews that will miss his presence in the future. John was preceded in death by his parents John Wallace McBryde Jr (known as JW) and his mother Patricia Davis McBryde. John grew up in Clay County and graduated from West Point High School in 1968. He received degrees from Wood Junior College and Delta State University. While attending Delta State he became involved in a mission group called The Delta Light. While on one of the Delta Light missions he met his future wife who he called his yellow rose of Texas, Janet Rose. They married four years later. After graduation, John pastored several United Methodist Churches and an Assembly of God church until his passion for helping others led him into the field of emergency medical work. After training he began working with the West Point fire department as an EMT and eventually became a paramedic with the ambulance service. He retired after 25 years from the fire department and began teaching emergency medical training at East Mississippi Community College. It was in this transition from the ministry to firefighting, that he often said, "I went from saving souls to saving lives." Upon retirement from EMCC, he finally had the time to devote to another of his passions which was historical research and writing. From his earliest years John had a fascination with the American Civil War. He put this to good use as he wrote and had published in 2013 a book about the American Civil War battle near West Point, Mississippi (The Battle of West Point…A Confederate Triumph at Ellis Bridge). Throughout the years he and Janet enriched their lives by traveling and participating in many Civil War Reenactments in which they particularly enjoyed the balls and building new friendships. In more recent years, John along with Janet, returned to his home church of Siloam Methodist where his love for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ began. He found great satisfaction and love for being at home with friends in the church he started out in. He enjoyed stepping in and helping with church services and activities. A visitation for John will be held Saturday, August 16, 2025, from 1:00-2:00 P.M. at Siloam Methodist Church and a Memorial Service will follow at 2 pm. The Reverend Raleigh Richter will be officiating. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements. Honorary pallbearers will be the Doctors, Nurses, and Staff of North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point, Doctors, Nurses, and Staff of both Radiology and CCU at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Golden Triangle, Employees of the West Point Fire Department, his many friends at Siloam Methodist Church, West Point High School Class of 1968, Reverend Walter Goldsmith, Reverend Billy Ray Stonestreet, and Randall Neely.
