Veta Jones Obituary

Veta Elaine Jones, age 67, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away, Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.
She was born on April 3, 1958, in Jefferson City, Mo., the daughter of William Norman and Vanita Faye (Walker) Holman. She was married on June 23, 1979, at Union Hill Baptist Church to John Steven "Steve" Jones who survives at the home.
A lifelong resident of Jefferson City, Veta graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1976 and went on to attend Nichols Career Center, where she became a licensed Practical Nurse in 1979. She began her nursing career at St. Mary's Hospital and later joined Jefferson City Medical Group, where she served with dedication and compassion until her retirement in 2009. Never one to shy away from new challenges, Veta embarked on a second career in the nuclear power industry, working alongside her husband, Steve. She brought the same caring spirit and strong work ethic to her new role, making a lasting impression in every place she worked.
Veta loved spending time outdoors, especially taking peaceful walks and feeding the birds she enjoyed watching so much. She also cherished traveling with her husband, Steve, often accompanying him to different power plants across the country. But her greatest joy in life was her family. As one of nine children, Veta learned from an early age how to care for others, spending much of her youth helping raise her siblings. That same nurturing spirit carried into her adult life as she lovingly raised her own three children, always making sure they had everything she could possibly give. Veta was also known for her excellent cooking; her famous potato salad was a favorite at every gathering. In addition to her many roles, she shared her love and faith by teaching at the Christian school, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of many.
Veta was a joyful and caring soul whose presence could light up any room. Her contagious laugh echoed with warmth and sincerity, drawing people in and making them feel at ease. She had a natural gift for taking charge in any situation, handling challenges with grace and determination. But above all, Veta had a heart for others, always ready to lend a hand, offer a kind word, or simply be there when someone needed her most. Her spirit of compassion and strength will be remembered by all who were blessed enough to know her.
Veta is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Steve; children, Ryan Jones (Megan) of Flagler Beach, FL., Jason Jones (Talitha Hannifin), of Oswego, NY., and Rachel Jones of Holts Summit, Mo.; siblings, Alice Holman, Lois Chronister, Dale Holman, Wesley Holman (Brenda), Wanda Clark (Vernie), Billy Holman (Kathy); and grandchildren, Adam, Andrew, Eli, and Cecelia.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Vanita Holman; and siblings, James Holman and Janice Francis.
A visitation will be held from 2:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., Monday, August 4, 2025, at Freeman Mortuary.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m., Monday, August 4, 2025, in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Doug Crader officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Riverwood Church, 3614 Church Ln., Jefferson City, Mo., 65101.
