John Mooney Obituary

JOHN MOONEY, 69, of Loudendale, WV, passed away November 29, 2024. He was the son of "Tony" and Rose Mooney of Loudendale. He and his brother, Willi, were twins, the "double trouble" and quite inseparable.
John was a skilled laborer which encompassed many trades. He worked for various companies and facilities throughout the years, with some being K&M Builders, maintenance at WV Rehab Center and maintenance at WV Federal Building.
He served the U.S. Armed Forces, 3 years in the Navy, honorably discharged with the rank of EN-3. His favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, prospecting gold with GPAA Club and watching old westerns. He loved to entertain people with jokes, stories and reciting colorful poems he had acquired in the Navy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John H. Mooney and Rosemary K. Mooney; twin brother, Willie Mooney, and daughter, Jennifer Null.
John is survived by his loving wife, Jo Mooney; son, Daren Mooney (Sara); sisters, Katharina Mooney (Brian) and Rose Ann Mooney (Randy); nephew, Gary P. Gunnoe (Amber); grandsons, Ranen Mooney and Aiden Mooney; granddaughter, Abigail Mooney; sisters-in-law, Bea Mooney and Bobbi Landers; brother-in-law, Mike Webster, and stepmother, Velva Mooney.
There will be no service.
John's ashes will be entombed at Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar, WV.
Condolences may be sent to the family at www.barlowbonsall.com.
Barlow Bonsall Funeral Home, Charleston, WV, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
John and his wife of 45 years, Jo, made Loudendale their home. John's life echoes in the valley of the old Mooney Farm. Another member gone as family slowly dwindles to time. Let it be known, he walked this place, left his initials in the old beech trees, and waded and fished the waters of Davis Creek. He watched the sunrises and sunsets from the Big Rocks on the hilltops. Met his love, raised his children and lived his dreams. His walk is over in this life. Rest in Peace, John.
P.S. Lord, if you're looking for him, he's fishing with his father and brother. If he gets a little grouchy, ignore him, we did.

My mom and John's mom Rose were good friends when I was growing up. Many good memories playing at their house when we were kids.

Worked with John at Superior Windows. He was unique, and a good friend. Lost his # a couple of phones ago. He's been on my mind lately, but I guess we'll have to wait for a heavenly reunion. Comfort his loved ones Lord Jesus, as only you can.
