Charles Carrico Obituary

Charles Harry "June" Carrico Jr. passed away in the early morning of October 26, 2025, at the age of 87 in his home surrounded by loved ones. He is survived by his wife, Alda Helton Carrico, his children Mary (Mike) Untiedt, Bill (Paula) Carrico, Danny Carrico, and Pam Carrico, as well as 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 brothers, David Carrico and wife Kathy, Nathan Carrico and wife Kathy and 3 sisters, Linda Blackwell, Patsy Hart, Yvonne Helton. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Charles "Jake" and Mary, and two siblings, Calvin and Brenda.Charles, or as most knew him, June, was born in Chilhowie VA on August 9, 1938, the oldest of 8 children. As a big brother, June was caring and kind, always there to lend a hand or simply listen. He was proud of his brothers and sisters, and nothing made him happier than to sit andtell stories about his family. A devoted husband of 68 years, June adored his wife, Alda. One of the tales he liked best was of their wedding day and how they eloped at the ages of 18 and 19 (he was the younger, a fact he enjoyed reminding her of). He liked to tell his grandchildren about picking her up that day from Fairground Hill as she ran after him, hollering for him to marry her and take her away. Together, they would create a lifetime of memories and raise a close-knit family, watching as that family grew through 4 generations. Throughout his life, June worked as a drywaller with his brothers David and Calvin. Driving around the region, June could point to every house, church, or business that he'd worked on, remembering the families who lived in those homes and reminiscing about summers when his nephews and grandsons would work with him. More than a hard-worker, he was an artist, someone who took the time to create beauty in everything he worked on. He took pride in his radiating plaster designs which can be seen throughout homes in southwest Virginia and are instantly recognizable to those who worked with him. June was a man of devout faith. He attended several churches through the years, building community and serving as an elder and a mentor to other members. In his final days, June was still tapping his foot to his favorite gospel songs, praising his Lord until the end. He lived as a servant of God, providing an example to his community of what it meant to live by faith and leaving his family with the peace that he is at last in the arms of his heavenly Father. A man of many interests, talents, and hobbies, there was nothing June loved more than being a father and grandfather. The center of a large family, he provided safety, calm, and a gentle hand to guide his children and grandchildren through any challenge. He led with quiet determination, a jovial sense of humor, and a deep well of understanding and forgiveness. To his sons and grandsons, he taught what it meant to be a man of dignity and strength. With his daughters and granddaughters, he encouraged confidence and independence, knowing they'd never find a better man than him. And he was right, because to his entire family and community, there was no better brother, husband, father, grandfather, or friend than June Carrico. Funeral services will be held at 3PM Thursday October 30, 2025 at the Chilhowie Christian Church with Pastor Greg Carrico officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1-3PM prior to services. Graveside services will follow at Middle Fork Cemetery with Pastor Arthur Chapman officiating. The Angels came calling riding the first rays of sun to take June home. The kind and gentleness he always showed to people, and the sense of humor can never be replaced. The Angels are surrounding you guys.Holding you until you all are to gather in heaven for the meals in the house he is preparing. Alda, there are no words, that will fill the loss. Alda, Mary, Bill & Family,
We are so sorry to hear about your precious dad. To have a Godly father like you had is more precious than gold or silver. We didn’t realize how fortunate we were growing up to be led and guided by fathers who received their guidance by Almighty God! I know your hearts are broken and you will miss him terribly, but the joy of knowing he is in the arms of Jesus and ready to welcome you to Heaven one day will give you strength to carry on. Our thoughts and prayers for you are with you in the coming days and months ahead.
