David Woods Obituary
David Lee Woods, of Giles County VA and formerly of Spotsylvania County VA, affectionately, known by friends as Dave, David-L or Woodchuck passed away peacefully on August 16, 2025 surrounded by his daughter and grandchildren.
David was born February 5, 1945 to William and Irene Woods in Eggleston, VA. Beginning at a young age he worked for his uncle Elmer Robinette in Kentucky driving a tow truck and doing auto mechanic work. He also worked for the Railroad, and he worked for the Appalachian Project to install electrical lines. David served in the United States Navy for several years and was proud to have served both President John F. Kennedy, and President Lyndon B. Johnson while working on the presidential yacht named The Sequoia. After leaving the Navy, David had several jobs before he settled into working for VEPCO (Virginia Electric Power Company) later known as Virginia power and now as Dominion Power. David loved his job and was very proud that they invested in him and sent him to over 100 schools while he was employed with them so that he could work on the nuclear reactors and every piece of equipment within the power station. David had a passion for learning anything and everything and sharing his knowledge with anyone interested in learning. He enjoyed playing golf as well as spending time in his garage with friends and family, and going to the Moose Lodge in Giles County when he moved back there in 2003.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Jessica "Muffy" Johnson (Troy Haley) of Spotsylvania VA, 3 grandchildren, Michael "Patrick" Lewis (Sabrina Fones) of Spotsylvania, Virginia, Edward "Eddy" Johnson and his wife Brittany of Mineral, Virginia, and Megan Johnson (USMC Corporal Seth Morcom) of Ruther Glen Virginia; 2 bonus grandchildren, Leigha Johnson and Lisa Johnson of Connecticut and 3 great-grandchildren in Connecticut Jadalyn, Makenzie, and Aubrey; four sisters-in-law, Margaret Woods, Donna Woods, Dinah Pettrey and Drema Janney and two brothers-in-laws Jerry Janney and James Snidow. David leaves numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, friends and in-laws as well as his golfing friend Jean O'Dell to cherish his memories. He also leaves his friend and caregiver, Anita Reynolds.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Janney Woods; three brothers, James (Nancy) Woods, Larry Woods and Charles Woods; and sister-in-law Barbara Snidow as well as many other precious loved ones.
The family would like to thank Lewis Gale Medical Center-Salem, and Good Samaritan Hospice in Roanoke, Virginia for the care they gave David and his family in the days before he passed away as well as for his baptism before he left this earth.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Giles Rescue and Life Saving Crew or to the Newport Volunteer Rescue Squad.
