Jimmy Maners Obituary

Jimmy Albert Maners passed away at his home on September 17, 2025. He was born on July 22, 1935 to the late Harvey William Maners and Mazle Long Maners. Jimmy was best known for his life's work as the owner and operator of Drum's Tire and Battery Service, which spanned over six decades. He was honored by CN2 News as a "Hometown Hero" in 2016 for his lifetime of service to the Rock Hill community. He treated his customers and employees like family, and was known for his honesty and generosity. When he was away from Drum's Tire, Jimmy was a voracious reader, sawing through countless novels and biographies each year. He was also an avid golfer, playing once or twice a week with his many friends at Pinetuck Golf Course, and continued playing into his seventies. He remained a fan of the game and kept up with tournament results all the way into his time under hospice care. In his youth, he was a three-sport athlete at Rock Hill High School, lettering in football, basketball, and baseball. Later in life, he played softball on the Rock Hill Printing and Finishing Company team, winning a state championship in 1964, and was an active member of the Rock Hill Elks Lodge 1318. After graduating from Rock Hill High School in 1953, Jimmy continued his studies at Wofford College, completing a bachelor's degree in business in 1957. In 1952, he married his wife of seventy-three years, Mary Ward Maners. She remained at his side until his very last day. Jimmy is survived by his daughter, Dr. Ann Maners, and her husband, Dr. Alex Pappas of Charleston, SC, his daughter, Cindy Wilkerson and her husband, Frank, and his son, Mike Maners, and his wife Tammi, all of Rock Hill, along with six grandchildren, Tripp Wilkerson (Laura Lea), Barrett Maners, Athena Mogil (Jared), Jimmy Maners (Montie), Christopher Pappas, and Benjamin Wilkerson, and five great-grandchildren, Helen, Matt, Connelly, James, and Zoe, and his brother-in-law, Ronnie Small. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jan Maners Small, his son, Jimmy A. ("Jimbo") Maners, Jr., and his grandson, Brien Wilkerson. The Maners family would like to extend their sincere and heartfelt appreciation to Jimmy's devoted caretakers during his time in hospice care, Valerie Rockholt, Erica Meade, and Ashlyn Tidwell. Greene Funeral Home will be serving the Maners family.

Yesterday

At age 17, I too, was one of those Mr. Manpers was kind enough to extend credit to. And for the past 52 years all my tires have been bought from Drums. I can see him standing behind the counter as soon as you open the door as I type. Condolences to to the family.

Jimmy Gave me my first set of tires on credit. I will never forget that and to this day I still get my tires at drum´s tire. Thank you Jimmie giving me my first credit. We will all miss you.

We have so many fond memories of Mr Maners, Mrs Maners, and the family through the years. He was a stalwart in the Dad's Club at Catawba Academy and helped raise most of the money for our sports programs. The Maners were also perennial attendees at the Jack Sutton Valentines Party, an infamous Rock Hill event. I always enjoyed spending time with them and catching up on their latest escapades. I wish I had been with them on some of those Vegas trips!
Through the week, the Maners could always be found hard at work at Drum's Tire and Battery. I am so happy to see Tammi and Mike keeping that business alive and thriving. I am constantly recommending the store as I know folks I send will be taken care of honestly and completely. The Maners are an OG Rock Hill family. Mr Maners will be sorely missed by many.
Love and Sympathy,
