Richard Hughes Obituary

Rock Hill, SC – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Eugene Hughes, a cherished husband, father, and friend, who departed this life on August 5, 2025, at the age of 78, in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Born on February 5, 1947, in Chester, SC, Richard's life was a rich tapestry woven from love, dedication, and service. Richard was the beloved son of Colie and Mildred Hughes of Chester, SC. After the passing of his father Colie when Richard was eight years old, his mother Mildred married Raymond Price, who became a devoted stepfather and played a significant role in Richard's upbringing. Together, Mildred and Raymond instilled in Richard the values of hard work and compassion. He carried these values throughout his life, serving his country honorably in the United States Navy. Richard completed two tours and dedicated four years of his life to ensuring the safety and security of others, exemplifying the spirit of selflessness that defined his character. Following his military service, Richard embarked on a successful career in construction sales. His expertise and dedication in the field earned him the respect of his peers and clients alike. Richard approached his work with the same passion he brought to every aspect of his life, always striving for excellence and integrity. In 1995, Richard married the love of his life, Barbara S. Hughes. Together, they shared a beautiful partnership that lasted for 30 remarkable years. Their bond was a testament to the strength of love and commitment, and Richard cherished every moment spent with Barbara. Richard was a proud father to three incredible daughters: Amanda Hughes Kirklin (Aaron), Chasity Lane McCarthy (Robbie), and Emily Lane Barfield (Kevin), as well as a devoted father to his only son, Bradley Hughes (Jennifer). His children were the pride and joy of his life, and he took great delight in watching them grow and thrive. Richard's legacy lives on through his many grandchildren, who will forever carry his spirit in their hearts. In addition to his children, Richard is survived by four sisters: Pat Coates (Emerson) of Kershaw, Ann Cloud of Rock Hill, Colleen Littlejohn and Dell Connor (Brian) of Chester. He was preceded by three brothers Albert, Jerry, and Johnny Hughes. Known for his warm smile and kind nature, Richard touched the lives of everyone he met. He was a loyal friend, a compassionate listener, and a steadfast supporter of those in need. His home was a gathering place for family and friends, where laughter and love were always present. Richard's life will be honored at a funeral service on August 15, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel. Family and friends are invited to celebrate the remarkable life of a man who devoted himself to his family, his country, and his community. In celebrating Richard Eugene Hughes, we remember a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose legacy of love and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever illuminate our lives. Condolences may be made to the family at greenefuneralhome.net
