Following his military service, Richard embarked on a successful career in construction sales. His expertise and dedication in the field earned him the respect of his peers and clients alike. Richard approached his work with the same passion he brought to every aspect of his life, always striving for excellence and integrity.
In 1995, Richard married the love of his life, Barbara S. Hughes. Together, they shared a beautiful partnership that lasted for 30 remarkable years. Richard was a proud father to three incredible daughters: Amanda Hughes Kirklin (Aaron), Chasity Lane McCarthy (Robbie), and Emily Lane Barfield (Kevin), as well as a devoted father to his only son, Bradley Hughes (Jennifer). His children were the pride and joy of his life, and he took great delight in watching them grow and thrive. Richard's legacy lives on through his many grandchildren, who will forever carry his spirit in their hearts.
In addition to his children, Richard is survived by four sisters: Pat Coates (Emerson) of Kershaw, Ann Cloud of Rock Hill, Colleen Littlejohn and Dell Connor (Brian) of Chester. He was preceded by three brothers Albert, Jerry, and Johnny Hughes.
