Charles Taylor Obituary

Charles E. Taylor

York - Charles Edward Taylor died on Sunday, May 23, 2021, after a valiant battle with several health issues just weeks short of his 81st birthday.

Born on June 11, 1940, in Madison County, Virginia, Charlie was the baby of 11 siblings born to the late Winnie Newman Taylor and Trittie Lillian May Taylor. This earned him the name "Sonny" which he has been affectionately called by his southern family his whole life.

Charlie is survived by his wife of 49 years JoAnn Snyder Taylor of York; daughter Jennifer Taylor Morris of York; son James Taylor and his wife Tammy of Dover; he was Pappy to his three grandchildren Nathaniel, Emily & Kaitlyn who were his pride and joy; siblings Sylvia Taylor and Ralph Taylor of Virginia; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Charlie grew up on a farm where he learned an unequaled work ethic he passed on to his children. His main line of work was in the textile industry where he was skilled in all areas including management, and there wasn't a textile loom he couldn't fix. Charlie worked at Frank Ix & Son in Charlottesville, Virginia before moving to Pennsylvania in 1971 to work at the former Orinoka Mills until it closed and eventually retired from Keystone Weaving Mills in York. Charlie was a skilled tradesman and never remained still as he was always working on houses and projects until his health began to decline. He was a man of deep faith and frequently quoted the Bible, and enjoyed a good adventure, never coming home the same way he went on weekend drives with his kids. He had a soft spot for animals, especially his big cat Toby and he loved to get a good laugh with his subtle sense of humor.

Charlie is preceded in death by his son Timothy Taylor; a granddaughter Shelby Taylor; his brothers, Jamie, Cecil, Willie Earl, and Harold and his sisters Mary, Virginia, Kathleen, Magdalene, and his youngest sister Jean who died just three days before him.

A funeral service will be held at John W. Keffer Funeral Homes at 902 Mount Rose Avenue, York, PA 17403 on Friday, May 28, 2021, at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Douglas E. Johnson presiding. Visitation begins at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Luther Memorial Church, 1907 Hollywood Drive, York, PA 17403.

Charlie was Married to JoAnne(My next door neighbor for years. It was always a pleasure to talk to. Even though I was a little punk kid, he never talked down to me. I thank god that I was able to have known him! RIP Charlie you will definitely be missed!

Charlie was a super nice guy, always ready to help anyone who needed it. Between him and my brother Larry, they taught me to drive a car. I remember telling him " I never drove on the highway, I can't do it" and he said, " yes you can, let's go" and I did it! Charlie will be missed. R.I.P. Chuck

I was in elementary school when I met my 1st Brother in law, Charlie! I remember being Mesmerized by the way he spoke with that beautiful southern drawl, it was a instant connection, and as I grew up he continued to connect and share his love with Brian, then the kids! I really don't think anyone could say anything bad about this man! Brian, Tyler Shanna and myself, loved him dearly and are grateful to have had him in our lives! It's certain he has a earned a place in paradise! My deepest sympathy to JoAnn, Jennifer, Jamie and his grandchildren! I know their loss is huge! Rest peacefully Chuckie, we Love you!

Charlie will be truly missed by many. I always like to hear him talk with that southern accent of his. He had a dry sense of humor and always seemed happy. I know JoAnn, Jenny , Jamie and his grandchildren will miss him terribly. We all will, but at least he is free of pain and I am sure he is watching over all of us and we will see him again someday.

Charles Taylor was my grandfather and I miss him a lot. I remember when he stuck his dentures out at me when we would take a drive normally to Virginia. I know that his cat Toby misses him a lot. He was the best. "Pappy may you rest in peace" - Kaitlyn N. Taylor.

Charlie was a great Unkle he helped me out over the years with electrical issues and other things around the house. He always had a sly comment when you would do something wrong but not mean always funny. I am proud to have called him my Unkle you will be missed.
