Frederick Smith Obituary

DOVER Frederick L. Smith, 84, passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2015, at Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Miriam E. (Stambaugh) Smith. Born in York, on May 26, 1931, he was the son of the late Clifford R. and Mabel E. (VanPelt) Smith. Fred retired after 33 years driving for UPS in the Dover area. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving 1948-1951, and a U.S. Air Force veteran serving 1956-1959. He attended York High School. Memberships include the Viking Athletic Association and the Hawk's Club. He enjoyed woodworking, fixing things, and having breakfast each morning with his retired friends. He leaves a son, Steve Julius and his wife, Kim; three grandchildren, Lindsay Julius, Lauren Hassinger and her husband, Josh, and Jacob Wire; a great-grandson, Wyatt Hassinger; a sister, Linda J. Waltimyer; and a brother, Robert G. Smith and his wife, Sue. He was preceded in death by a son, David Julius; a daughter, Deborah Wire; a sister, Phyllis Noaker; four brothers, Richard, Gerald, Larry, and Elwood Smith; and a foster brother, Earl Smith. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at Koller Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 2000 W. Market St. in York. A service to celebrate Fred's life will follow at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery. Military rites will be performed by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to PA Wounded Warrior, Inc., 1117 Country Club Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011.
