Henry A. "Hank" Doll III

Henry Doll Obituary

Mr. Henry A. "Hank" Doll III, 56, formerly of York, died Thursday, May 13, 2004, in the service of his Country in Iraq. He was part of a U.S. State Department program, working as an International Police Liaison Officer in support of the Coalition Provisional Authority. Mr. Doll was a member of the Pennsylvania Army Reserves and National Guard between 1966 and 1971. He was a Trooper with the Pennsylvania State Police between 1970 and 1991 and then the York County Sheriff's Department for two years. He joined the Collier County Sheriff's Office in 1994 aspiring to the rank of Corporal. Throughout his career, he earned many awards and received other official recognition and honors for his professionalism. Mr. Doll has been described as being compassionate, tough, fair and professional. He volunteered for this assignment with the hope of making a difference as he described, "I feel this opportunity to serve my country would benefit the Collier County Sheriff's Office upon my return. Dealing with terrorism issues overseas would give me firsthand experience, which would be invaluable to the agency". Mr. Doll is survived by his son, Henry, daughter-in-law, Staci and granddaughter, Sarah of Hancock, Md.; son, Alex of Naples, Fla.; former wife, Marion Doll of Westminster, Md. and a sister, Mary Ann, and brother-in-law, Thomas Pinkerton of Dallastown. Arrangements for Mr. Doll's funeral are tentatively scheduled for Thursday, May 20, 2004 at the Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church Street, New Windsor, Md. The family will receive visitors from noon to 2 p.m. with a short service following, to be held at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be chosen. I have only known Hank for about four years but it seems that we have known each other all our lives. It was amazing to meet Hank and learn he was from York. I left York many years ago but he brought back so many memories. It was so exciting to talk of people and places we both knew, yet he and I had never met before working in the Bailiff Bureau. We learned our Great Great Grandfathers had served together in the Civil War and I feel it gave us a bond working together. Hank will be missed by all that he touched throughout his life.To his Family and all his friends my deepest sympathy.

I have worked with Hank since 1995 and it was always a pleasure to be in his company. Over the years, Hank and I became very good friends. My father passed away in 1994 and I always looked up to Hank as a role model. He was a great friend, he was always there to listen when you needed someone to talk to and he always gave good advice. I will miss him greatly. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.
